In 2003 he earned his first Oliver Award nomination, Best Performance in a Supporting Role for his work in Hedda Gabier. He later won the Oliver Award in 2012, for Best Actor for his performance in Frankenstein at The National Theatre. His award was shared with fellow actor Johnny Lee Miller, as they alternated between playing Victor Frankenstein and the Creature
Won a scholarship to attend the public school, Harrow
