History:

Ori lived in the halls of the exiled Thorin Oakenshield, just as his brothers Dori and Nori. In TA 2941 the three brothers joined the Company of Thorin Oakenshield on the Quest for Erebor, to reclaim Thorin’s homeland in the eastern part of Middle-earth. Not much is known about Ori during the company’s journey to Erebor. He fought in the Battle of the Five Armies together with his brothers and the other companions, and afterwards he lived in Erebor under the reign of King Dale Ironfoot.

In TA 2989 Ori joined a group of Dwarves who set out to reclaim another old Dwarven kingdom: Moria. Balin and Oin, two other survivors of Thorin’s company, were also among them. The Dwarves reached Moria and began to set up a new settlement. Ori kept track of their progress in a log book, later called the Book of Mazarbul. Despite initial positive tidings to Erebor, the attempt seems failed when no more messages are sent out from Moria.

The fate of the small colony was discovered when the Fellowship of the Ring travels through Moria in TA 3018. They found the Book of Mazarbul in a room full of skeletons. The book revealed that all Dwarves of Moria were slain in TA 2994, by the large number of Orcs that still occupied the lower levels of Moria.
