It is going to be for my own interests. If you love what you do, then you will never work a day in your life.

I have already decided that I really want to be an engineer, and I will probably pursue the path of Mechanical Engineering.

true...interests can compell you, they can also make fo an extremely interesting job incentives
...but I´ve also had jobs, in my field, where it was my co-workers that almost killed my joy of the job!
So it´s a balance, like so many other things in life.

It sounds challenging....bridges?..buildings?..or tinkering?

Yeah, but that is, at least, better than working with annoying coworkers in a job you don't enjoy. Can't have everything you want.

I am not entirely sure, and I am just happy that I don't have to make that decision immediately.
