Post subject:  Hang out with the Mod Team

So.. I figured that with the new mod team and all we might need a place to introduce the team to, especially new members, but also just to hang out and familiarise ourselves with the new situation. I've gotta say we newbie mods feel a bit overwhelmed now, although we are also excited to serve A-U the best we can. Hopefully, our function will be more on the maintenance and management side since most of us (well, you and us) here know this community pretty well after so many years and know how to keep it peaceful and fun. :)
So come hang out with us.. we have sushi and cake! :P
Oh, and do post here if you have any questions too.. or just wanna talk.

*clears throat*
Hi, I'm Eä and my favorite smilies are :P and :teehee: because they're the only ones I can remember by heart! And then I just memorised the code for :laughbounce: so expect a lot of those in the future.

I'm currently in my last year of uni and majoring in communication. Triple chocolate and Ben & Jerry's strawberry cheesecake are my favorite ice creams. I fail at all things technology, including my own computer.. but I love lists.. all kinds of lists.. lists are awesome! :teehee: And ehh.. last random fact: I love palm trees!
You may often find me in the Green Dragon/Your Life and the Revival board. I love how the Revival is going and how many people are involved and working hard for this, so exciting. :) But actually, I'm all over.. A-U is great procrastination. :P

Post subject:  Re: Hang out with the Mod Team

I'd like to add feel free to ask us questions about ourselves here too to better get to know us.

I'm Ivy- Ivreniel. I'm so please to see all this new life on the forum and the fresh colors. Here are 20 things about me.

1- My favorite color varies. Usually it's green but I also like to use a lot of yellows.

2- Right now listening to the sound of a bird singing away in the tree makes me particularly happy!

3- I don't have a "home town" because I've lived in too many places and my folks don't live in the town of my birth.

4- Cooking and trying out different international dishes is one of my favorite ways to chillax. My most recent favorite is a dish from Peru called Arroz Tapado.

5-I drove my family crazy last Christmas by making a different pie each day- and blogging about it. I called it the 12 Pies of Christmas.

6-I listen to a variety of music from classical to oldies to whatever's newest on the radio

7-Oh, add to that I'm mom to a toddler so I also listen to- and dance to- Raffi, the Wiggles, AndyZ and other kid artists.

8-I love to travel but alas! although when I lived in the Southwest for a short time I could see Mexico from my window I've never been outside of the US :(

9- I enjoy traveling by car more than by air simply because I can see more and can stop and get out whenever I want!

10- I love to make friends and often initiate get-togethers with local friends.

11-There are only a few people in the world who can brew a pot of coffee to my liking, and thankfully I'm married to one of them!

12- If I go to Starbucks I'll probably either order a Java Chip Frap or a Strawberries and Creme.

13- Hiking is a favorite activity, as is going to the zoo. My toddler knows his wildlife better than his letters and numbers at this time due to our frequent trips to zoos and wildlife preserves...I think I'm the only mom who'd go "no, T- that's not a monkey, it's an ape. See? No tail," or explain why that particular creature in a shell is a tortoise rather than a turtle.

14- One thing I'm really thankful to AU is for exposing me to lots of people internationally who are well versed in or even fluent in several languages. You are all inspirations to me and how I'm trying to raise my son.

15- I love winter. Winter and summer- the seasons of extremes- are my favorites.

16- My favorite olympics are winter olympics

17- Another kitchen favorite of mine: baking from-scratch bread and cakes! Yum!

18- Although I rarely get to watch either I enjoy both a good opera and a Nascar race!

19- I love dresses although I tend to wear blue jeans.

20- My husband accuses me of being addicted to purses the way most women are to shoes!

This thread is such a good idea :)
Ivreniel - any chance of a photo of your kid? I *adore* kids. My nephew is almost five and my niece is 6 months, and I love them to bits :D I understand if you don't want him all over the internet, though!

Eä, you should come visit me in LA because there are tons and tons of palm trees here! :D Everywhere you look!

Ooh, my friend is studying communications as well, I hope you are having fun. What career do you plan on pursuing?

By the way, congratulations to the new moderators, again. ^^

Hello Ivy, nice to meet you! :bye2: I took a gander at your blog and OH MY GOODNESS YOUR PIES LOOK SO DELICIOUS. That mushroom appetizer...phwoar, I just wanted to reach into the screen, take it out, and devour it. You seem like quite the chef, I am sure your son and husband are lucky to have you cook for them. :-D

Thanks Ea for starting the thread :-D Stickying - we definitely need it! I knew we had an old one lurking around here and was eventually able to find it....but it died three years ago, most of the mods who posted on it aren't active anymore, and I for one do NOT want to read what I had to say about myself six years ago. (Dear God no.) So it's nice to have a shiny new thread of...shiny newness. Huzzah! Feel free to ask questions :)

OK, the most important question for all of you....

Pirates or Ninjas?

:teehee:

Hm, I'll have to think about the photo...will get back on that one.

Pirates or ninjas? Neither. I'm all for samurai, not ninjas!

Post subject:  Re: Hang out with the Mod Team

Ivy, do you really have to set such a high standard for introductions? :teehee:
@#4: Yeah, you've always been A-U's resident chef. You should revive/restart all your yummy cooking discussions in the Green Dragon, and I'd so be lurking there! :P

@Nicole: Be careful what you say, I might just come stalking you. :teehee: I was in LA once. It was in January and quite cold.. all the palm trees were pretty enough but looked quite annoyed with the weather! If I'm going to California again I hope to be visiting San Francisco (too) because.. well, it's the famous San Fran! :)
I love communications but I don't think I'll end up a hardcore communicator person... like a journalist or press coordinator. I like the behind-the-scenes stuff more: coordinating, planning, eventing.. but I have no idea where I might end up...

@Arweb: I was actually looking for the old moderator intro thread before starting this one to see what y'all said back then but I couldnt find it... now I'm really curious though!

@Hravan: Ninjas of course.. :karate:

Hello, everyone! I just wanted to echo Ea's post about how we newbie mods working on getting our bearings and experimenting with all our shiny new all-powerful buttons. (We apologize in advance for any explosions or earthquakes you might experience while we do this. :P)

Ea wrote:

This. :teehee: I'm not even sure where to start with myself now. :P

I'm Taurquende, also known as Taur. :bye2: I took a year off between high school and college to prepare for my music school auditions, but now I'm glad to say I'm going to college in the fall to major in Bassoon Performance (really!). Naturally, being a classical musician I adore classical music, especially by the composers Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Beethoven, and Mahler. (Hint: The best composers know how to effectively use the bassoon. :teehee:) I also love classic movies (including a lot of silent films ), the Phantom of the Opera, and all things old and historical. :medieval:

Pirates v. Ninjas? Difficult to say... I like PotC but I'm think I'm going to go with ninjas. They're cleaner. ;)

Taur: I like Phantom, too! Have you ever seen one of the actual shows?

Oh, and for everyone: what's your favorite all-time quote from anything you've ever read or seen? Just throwing it out there. :)

Post subject:  Re: Hang out with the Mod Team

Hey friends!

Sidawethiel posting here! I, uhhh, am me. And, I post, sometimes, mainly I lurk and lurk and lurk. I'm graduating from University on Saturday with a degree in Sociology. Super. I'm really bad at introductions.

I'm rather fond of pirates. I have to admit, they have a rogue-ish appeal to them. However, I'm petrified of deep water, so I don't think I could ever be one.

Quote, quote, quote. My favorite quote changes frequently, most recently it has been "I have had dreams, and I have had nightmares. I overcame the nightmares because of my dreams".

@ Harthad... Oh yes! Twice on tour, and once on Broadway (which was :swoon:).

Ah, quotes!! I love quotes. I sort of collect them. :P Some of my favorites:
"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything." Plato

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great." Mark Twain

"It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after one's own. But great is the man who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude." Ralph Waldo Emerson

And since we were just talking about Phantom of the Opera....

"Gasping, overwhelmed, and compassionate, I listened to the swelling of gigantic chords in which sorrow was made divine. Then the sounds from the abyss suddenly came together in a prodigious, threatening flight, a swirling flock that seemed to rise into the sky like an eagle soaring toward the sun, and I heard such a triumphal symphony, seemingly setting the world ablaze, that I realized the work was ending and that ugliness, lifted on the wings of love, had dared to look beauty in the face." The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux (translated by Lowell Bair).

I'm so un-original... I used to have Carpe diem as my favorite applicable-to-life quote because I used to be shy and fearful and dull... and I decided that I really needed to get out of my shell and go out and seize the day... so I did. :teehee:
But for now my favorite quote's gotta be Be the change you want to see in the world (which is really just Gandhi's way of saying "Even the smallest person can change the course of the future"). I believe that if I live my life the way I feel is right I can leave a footprint on the world.. a small one.. tiny small-ish.. but still.. you know... :P

I love "Above all shadows rides the sun and stars forever dwell"- it's so full of hope.

Also "Ex abundantia enim cordis os loquitor": For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

I bought a pin at a "Peace Center" that says that quote! I used to wear it on my messenger bag all the time! AH! It's definitely one of my favorites as well! :teehee:

Well, I suppose I should jump on this bandwagon too. :) *waves* Hi, I'm Larael. Like Sida, I'm horribly awkward at introductions. Eh, I'll be at my third year of university in Brighton this autumn, [although technically I'll be studying in the U.S.] and I'm hoping to earn a degree in English. I like words and books and tea . . . generally English-y, bookworm type things. I also enjoy traveling. Pirates always win over ninjas, and as for my favourite quote - "God gives talent. Work transforms talent into genius" [Anna Pavlova; she's one of my favourite ballerinas!]
