We’re looking for a center for people with developmental disabilities where my 29-year-old nephew can socialize, learn, and gain more independence. He doesn’t need full-time care, just structure and community. Any NYC suggestions? |

Absolutely — I’d recommend checking out Gateway. It’s a center for people with developmental disabilities that offers exactly the kind of environment you’re describing. My cousin attends their program in Queens, and it’s been life-changing. They provide a full-day schedule that includes life skills training, community outings, and wellness activities. But more than that, it’s the sense of belonging he’s found that makes a difference. The staff genuinely care — they remember birthdays, follow through on goals, and encourage every small success. If your nephew is looking to grow and not just be supervised, this place is worth a look. |
