OMG!!! I had no idea that this had been made! I am so excited!! ![]() LINK: http://www.amazon.com/Beowulf-Grendel-S ... B000GIXEIG I can't wait to get it.. I'm going to the shops tomorrow (hopefully) and going to see if they have it... if they dont... well.. I'll - you don't want to know what I'll do. Has anyone seen it? All the reviews I read have been promising.. Sorry.. I'm far too excited at the moment to type anything intelligent.. (I wasn't sure if to put this thread here, or in the Mirrormere - Movies and TV section.. but I put it here because Beowulf and Tolkien are linked.. so was I right in putting it here?.. ![]() EDIT: Just to let you guys know, this movie is rated R for Violence, language and some sexuality. |

There's two Beowulf movies. One with Gerard Butler which hasn't been able to get distribution and another one which is as far as I recall animated, at least in part. Here's the link for the other one starring Brendan Gleeson, Anthony Hopkins, Crispin Glover and Angelina Jolie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0442933/ |

I've already seen it in the videostore last week. I didn't take it.. But does anyone know it's any good? I believe in some countries it still has to come out... |

I saw Beowulf & Grendel at an art house theatre last week. It's had a very limited release in NZ - this theatre was screening it on DVD rather than 35mm film. I should have remembered that there's usually a reason some films don't get mainstream (or wide) releases ... Sometimes they just aren't very good films. ![]() Unfortunately, this was the case with Beowulf. It has a fine epic story, interesting and capable actors, lovely landscapes and a suitably gritty look about it. But I thought the script could have been a lot better and there were some rather silly ('Hollywood') moments in it. It also had some good moments, but not enough to make me think better of the film. Oh, and I found some of the dialogue hard to follow. (I knew the basic story before seeing the film but haven't read the poem.) To summarise, I suppose I'd say it's 'of interest' to those keen on Tolkien, myths, legends, epic sagas, and period pieces. And some of you may enjoy it more than I did - a friend I went to the screening with seemed to like it more than me. ![]() |
