Lol, I have Middle-earth in my mind, but I try not to think of it as Earth. It bothers me....if it's Earth, then where are the Elves? If I think of it as a different world, then maybe the Elves are still around.....

Same here. I like to think it is out there... and maybe, should I just find the way, I could go there... but for now I must be content to go there in my mind.

I know that Middle-earth probably didn't exist, but I still like to pretend it did.
:-D
This discussion reminds me of a fanfiction I'm writing where JRR Tolkien had a nanny who was an elf that stayed behind. She taught him about Middle-earth, which is how he was inspired to write the books.

I see Middle-Earth as a world which could exist if people on Earth did things differently. I see Elves and Hobbits and Dwarves etc. as different kinds of humans. E.g. the Elves are humans in a perfect form to me.

Now that's an interesting way to look at it.

Hobbits would be among the social, happy, food loving people in society and also those who take things for granted of course too

:)
