I think Middle-Earth exisits.

I think that Tolkien may have experienced it in his past life or something and subconcsiously wrote about it. Think about it though guys! It's waaaay too detailed to be classified as fantasy? lol.

I'm sure it does exist you know!

Are you absolutely sure? Or do you consider it an option?

The reason it is so detailed is because Tolkien drew on already existing realms within different kinds of Mythologies. The races (such as elves, dwarves, trolls, wizards etc) are all from Scandinavian folklore and Norse Mythology, just the name "Middle-Earth" is directly taken from Asatru/Norse Mythology where "Middle-Earth" is the realm of the humans. The power of rings also exist in various European folklore and folktales. Of course there is plenty of originality in LotR, but just as much (if not even more than half) is borrowed/taken from already existing mythologies and folktales!

I like to pretend he didn't take anything from anything. I mean, he was influenced by things... but I don't think he necessarily just put together a bunch of stuff in a mish-mash to get his own story. I think he had a lot of influences rather than sources.

I have, on several occasions, actually started believing Middle Earth existed. But the rest of the time, I just act like I do. It makes things so much more fun. I have a very, very vivid imagination, so, in a lot of ways Middle Earth does exist for me, and for thousands of other fans. :)

I agree, with you, Altariel Frodo, that in many ways M-E does exsist for fans.

I'd love to go to new zealand as well for the same reason. It is said you can go on a tour which shows you some of the settings that are still there from the movies.

Even Bag End is still there to be visited! Isn't that wonderfull? It would be like you were actually in Middle-earth!

When I grow up, I'm sure I'll make an expedition there. I want to go there so much... I adore beautiful landscapes, mountains, lakes, forests... they reach something inside of me. And New Zealand is just amazing.

But Middle Earth itself... ever since I first got into LotR, four and a half years ago now, I started imagining myself there. I have a very vivid imagination, as I think I stated above, so it's very easy for me. Also, just around in my life, there will be little pieces of Middle Earth: from a grassy hill with little flowers on it, to the sun shining through transparent green leaves, to water lapping a sandy shore. Middle Earth can be found in our world, not only in New Zealand. :)

Yeah I agree with that... it can't exist in RL anyway... Middle-earth was supposed to be Earth in the PAST so even if it did exist it wouldn't anymore ;)

Lol, I have Middle-earth in my mind, but I try not to think of it as Earth. It bothers me....if it's Earth, then where are the Elves? If I think of it as a different world, then maybe the Elves are still around.....
