I read an article on this new movie and it said something like this: Tolkien was the father of 'hopeful fantasy'. which means, that whilst reading/watching LotR you don't have to be frightened because you know already that there'll be a happy ending. no way. and the new movie is supposedly 'something different'. :annoyed: very annoying.

It was in a newspaper. how can they say some movie-script-writer's better than Tolkien who's written the best books on Earth? :disgust: it's NOT anything near 'hopeful'. if something is, movies are.

exactly, I can only agree. That person must have no idea about LotR or Tolkien.

Not a eucatastrophy.

An allegory. Tolkien was a Christian. Gandalf's death to save the fellowship is like Jesus's death to save the world.

PM me if you have more questions, I know what I just said is pushing the forum rules.

I personally think Gandalf's death was a catastrophe, so when he came back it was an eucatastrophe :D

That's... so weird. Like I said on the first post on this thread, one of the best things about LotR to me is that they keep fighting, even when there is no hope. You don't necessarily know it's going to have a happy ending, and it really doesn't. I mean, Frodo pretty much gave up his life to save Middle Earth... that's happy? And Galadriel, Gandalf, and Elrond all left, and you know Arwen's going to die... the ending is satisfying and bitter-sweet.

Sometimes people can be so idiotic about LotR. It drives me MAD. :explode:

exactly. I never considered the LotR ending as being a happy ending. It's got a bittersweet mood like you've said.

I especially lamented for Arwen, Elrond (for parting with his daughter) and Frodo. :/ and the end of an era. *mutters* of all stupid people those are the worst.
