One of the most important things about LotR to me is that there are lessons to be learned from it. It helped me to grow up in a lot of ways. What I consider to be the greatest lesson in the Lord of the Rings is that, even when hope is shattered and we're on our knees crying in the darkness, we still have to get up and fight for what's right. Frodo and Sam pretty much lost all hope. They were in agony, far from everything they had ever known. And yet still they fought on, giving everything for a world they would never see again. We would do well to follow their example. Especially because, even if we can't see any hope and everything is dark, "there is still light and beauty that no shadow can touch." Always. Any thoughts on this concept, or other lessons that can be learned from Lord of the Rings? |

i guess one thing we can all learn is: never forget the power of a woman on the edge! (lol, look at what eowyn did, just because someone told her she had to stay behind, she went with the men, nearly died AND saved everyone! all that to prove a point) |

LotR really did teach me wise things but also as I became a fan of LotR and joined e.g. this forum and started writing here, my writing in school improved as well  Funny but true.

I love the english of LOTR. it's just amazing. it gives you the feel of things going on. After reading LOTR, i started learning tolkienien and english of that time. Now as i have started with elvish, i'm improving my English too. Most of the quotes in LOTR are simply striking. i always keep some of them on my wallpaper. I really love the poem about Aragon. it rekindles hope in you. Regards, GL |

I just remembered one scene which tells the theme of LotR very simply (it's not in the book, but still!); the scene where Frodo is in Shelob's lair and he's like omg I can't carry on and he's lying on the ground and then he sees a vision of Galadriel and she lifts her up! I love that part because it tells even if there's no hope left you must carry on because you can never know what will happen.

I think sacrifice is a big part of LotR. Frodo and Sam are willing to give their lives to save Middle-Earth, as are the rest of the fellowship. Gandalf died to save the rest of them. Perserverance sort of goes with that, too. They perservered and were able to get the ring into Mordor and complete their task. |
