The director of the Spiderman movies might do it, but I think PJ would still be better...

Yesterday I read somewhere on the net that the man who actually owns the rights for LOTR and the Hobbit (Zaul Santez ???) and temporary sold them to NewLine wants PJ to direct the Hobbit. And according to that article, the rights should fall back on him next year...So maybe there's still hope...

I could understand if someone else directed it, but if PJ wasn't involved... DISASTER! Then Hobbiton would look completely different and Gandalf would have a different costume and the elves would be different... I know they are different in The Hobbit as opposed to The Lord of the Rings, but it NEEDS that continuity in costumes, sets, designs. When you think of all the research and effort that went into designing Middle Earth in the films, I don't think it could be portrayed differently, without something being wrong. Even if it was just a heck of a lot of angry Ringers!

I guess I find it really hard to imagine The Hobbit without that fantastic Middle-Earth quality that was in the Lord of the Rings films. It ... wouldn't... work... :explode:

*gets emotional and storms off*

Who is Saul Zaentz? I mean, shouldn't all rights belong to Tolkien's family? but that's great news. I also think that the continuity would be essential.. it's probably going to suck if they have a different director, actors, costumes, sets..

Well, I think Tolkien sold the rights of the LOTR and the Hobbit before his death to a certain company, as he didn't want that Disney got them. And I think the man who bought the rights was Saul Zaentz (?).
However, a few years ago he sold the rights to NewLine somehow, so that they could make the movies and all the merchandise stuff. According to the article I read, the rights have only been sold temporarily and will fall back on him next year, so that he can sell them to another company and maybe choose the director he wants, which would be PJ...

I wonder what Diseny would do if they got the Hobbit rights. Do you think they'd botch it up?

Yeah, I think that's about it. And... I hope that that's true. *hope stirs in heart*

*shudders imagining Disney with the rights* That would be... my very worst nightmare. Sorry, I'm a confirmed Disney-hater... the only thing worth while that they're turned out in forever is PotC. *shudders again* Disney having the rights would be even worse than someone other than PJ making the Hobbit.

Please, not an animation! The Bashiki version was bad enough!
