My parents are fine with it.

What I don't get is when people's parents hate Harry Potter and allow their children to watch/read Lotr. They both have wizards and magic!

I'm the only one in my family to have read (and re-read) the books but my dad has seen the movies.

My mum reads a lot but when I was about 6 she read me the hobbit and found it really boring (I enjoyed it) so she thinks tLotR books will be boring.

Also she just doesn't have the time.

I am pretty lucky, my parentals bought me Tolkien, and C.S Lewis and fed me every bit of mythology and fable they could find. If I could only give a kid one fantasy book it would be The Lord of the RIngs in it's entirety. Most other fantasy stories are inspried by it anyway (plus it is really good literature...not drivel or pap to take up space in a young mind).

It is a shame that peoples knowledge of 2oth century litlerature is so poor that LOTR is viewed as "hollywood hype"...Good Lord, does that mean Hamlet was hype and marketing just because a move version was made?

(gets down off soap box)

My mom thinks Viggo is hot, so she likes it. I'm asian and my family likes action movies. Not that all asians like 'em though.

My parents like it I guess. They just got really annoyed with me obsessing over it, and watching it all the time. But thats ok I guess, as long as they dont hate it.

devil worship??? :jawdrop: my god... parents really need to learn how to be supportive and encourage their kids' interests! because it's your life, not theirs.

I got lucky, it seems... my dad has been a (normal, not-too-crazy) fan ever since he read the books in the 70s. He was the one that first introduced them to me. My dad likes the movies as well. My mom has never read the books but absolutely loves the movies. She's the one that brought me to be obsessed with Aragorn, actually. And my brothers both love the movies (and the elder one of the two likes the books as well), and they absolutely love spoofing it with me.

So with my dad I have good book-conversations, my mom I fan girl about Aragorn, and with my brothers I do spoofs and laugh and joke and make fun...

Life is good XD

My mom & dad don't particularly like it. They aren't completely against it, however they would much rather watch star wars or potc. it just freaks them out when my bro does a gollum impression. :duh:

Mom hates the orcs and believe it or not I only was just allowed to buy the LOTR dvd's this summer. Before then I could only watch it at a friends house. It was a very dark time in my life.

yeah, my parents aren't very supportive of my obsession either. my dad, he's never seen it, just because he's so busy and my mom, well her reaction was "it's just like harry potter, isn't it?". grrr.. :annoyed:

My friend Heather isn't allowed to watch/read Harry Potter, but her parents allow her to watch/read Lotr. I don't understand it either. :confused2:
