It really IS the best site

and back onto the topic of parents and LOTR.

My parents absolutely love LOTR, and they grew up reading it!

I do NOT want to get into this discussion...

But I am like that, so I will state my opinion short and quickly.

Harry and his friends are humans who use magic, plus the HP worlds have an entirely different worldview from LotR. In LotR only elves and 'wizards' (aka Istari, which are more like angels anyway,) use magic, and it is a gift bestowed upon them by Illuvatar. It is a part of their character. HP & co. learn magic by spells and witchcraft. Plus, magic when wielded by men is shown as very dangerous in LotR.

Okay, I'm done. :bye2: No one be offended, please, just my opinion! *hides*

I'm so glad that someone pointed that out. That's exactly my opinion and I don't like HP at all! (No offense to the Potterheads here)

Btw Earlinde and Eowyn: I love classical music, too! :-) My friends know that, but they accept me how I am. Maybe they think I'm weird because I'm obsessed with LotR and like classical and celtic music and talk to other ppl at Internet forums, but I don't care. That's just how I am, I can only be myself. They like things like shopping and Rock concerts, and I like other things.I'm different, but they like me how I am. :-)

And now back to the topic :-D  ...

Firiel: Yeah we have quite alot similarities...
ForeverFrodo: Yep, absolutely true, and yeah my friends accept it that I like classical and celtic music (but also a bit of rock&pop) but they just think I'm weird and you know fence me out sometimes. That's just how the world is, and I'm going to get used to it. Remember: Being a Ring-bearer means being alone...that's what I think of when I get fenced out, we're all in our own ways Ring-bearers, so we have to be alone. And yes, I don't like H.P either, I enjoy watching the movies and reading the books, but there's just the something missing...

(sorry for this off-topic thingy but I have to ask this: What do you guys like of my banners (the one with the three orc hunters and the one with sam&frodo)? I LOVE them, the two first ones were made by Elenriel Greenleaf, and the last one by ForeverFrodo)

I have that sort of problem. my mom does not like fantasy or sci-fi, me being obsessed, or me being a very big tomboy. we're very different people, she's very girly. my dad doesn't get fantasy stuff either. he's the practical farmer type, and he usually kind of laughes at the stuff i like. I'm also the only obsessed kid in our church, except maybe one of my friends, and it's real tough.

Eh...your parents are HAPPY? *sob* My parents think obsession in very unhealthy. :( I am sometimes scared to mention LotR in their presence as a simple refernece to it can put my mother in a sour mood. My father is better, and he likes hte movies as movies: the battle scnees, actors, etc. He's also read the books. My dad's definitely more of a sci-fi fan, though, and I don't think he quite gets my obsessiveness.

*sigh* Both of my parents think it's rubbish. they won't even give it a chance. My mum thinks I'm crazy. My Dad knows I'm crazy, but at least he accepts me the way I am.
However, my good friend's mum is way into LOTR. She has loved it since she was little. She went looking for Hobbits in the woods she told me. That was the friend who got me into LOTR to begin with. She didn't know she was creating a monster........ now I love it even more than she does! :P
