Post subject:  Favourite Death in the Books/Movies?

Lets face it, there were some darn cool deaths in the Lord of the Rings, the film especially, but which one is your favourite?
Mine;

Book: Gandalf (Not a death but at the point it seemed like it, so it counts ;))
Movies: Boromir (I am very tempted to say Gollum but Boromir's was legendary)

favourite seems a strange word to use of a death, but in both the book and the film i find theoden's death the most powerful - the bit where he talks about being worthy of a place in the halls of his fathers particularly moving. i don't think i've ever cried in the film, but i weep every time i read that passage in the book.

Your right, 'Favourite' is a starnge word to use, but you know what I mean :)

Theoden's death in the books is very moving, but I didnt think it was very well done in the movie to be honest...

yeah, i do know what you mean.

i agree that theoden's death wasn't as well handled in the film as it was in the book, and i was a little disappointed myself, but i still find it the most effecting of all the deaths. i guess because theoden's one of my favourite characters.

Movie: Boromir. His death is just such an emotional part. Makes me cry every time I watch it.
Book: Hmm.. that's kinda hard. I'd say Theoden. I found his death really sad.

Favorite? Hmmm...movies: Denethor! I hated him with a purple passion! He was down right cruel. I have little... if any... pitty for him despite all that he went through. I was just so happy when he finaly got his due. I would never wish such on any real person ever and I must give John Noble his props because he played the part beyond my wildest expectations...but I just hate Denethor. I don't know if I ever have been more happy to see a character go before in my life.
As for the books if I couldn't say Denethor here as well...I would have to say Theoden's death but for an entirely different reason. When they killed him off I was a bit sad unlike with Denethor. It's just that his death was written so well. The books really let you get to know Theoden and let you grow to love him. So when he died it was really sad. The parts where he spoke of Eomer and Eowyn and Merry and of how he loved them as if they were his own chilldren ect...that was flat out beutiful. I love that part (because it is so beutfil and moving) and yet I hate it (because I grew to like the character of Theoden). So I would have to pick his death as my "favorite".

Movie - Boromir, because it makes me cry every time I watch it :-D

Book - Theoden, because it's so moving and well-written.

It's the same for both - Boromir's.
Talk about bravery and not backing down...

talking about the film, Boromir's death is great and so epic. His parting from life simbolizes the parting of the fellowship

I didn't even count Arwen's death as part of the books, because it's in the appendices. But it is a very tragic death, because at first she begs Aragorn not to die, but he still gives away his life and then she's but a shadow of herself and goes to Cerin Amroth. I think it's really sad.

yeah exactly. The way he describes Lorien is really sad. It also makes me really sad, because I felt really connected to Lorien in FotR. I think Arwen must've felt really lost.

Favorite death is really a strange term to me. Hmm, in the movies, Denethor's was needed, which sounds terrible, but it was cool. But really, my favorite was...

Movie: Boromir, without a doubt, though Haldir's and Theoden's were powerful.
Book: The one that was the most touching to me was actually the part where Sam thinks Frodo is dead. I wailed during that part of the book. But since that doesn't count, Boromir, again.

I liked the death of the Witch king (book) and movie and the death of the Mouth of Sauron in the movies.
