I know we're a lot of people here on AU whose native tongue isn't english... I remember an old thread where we used to compare the differences between the original book and the names translated in our natives tongues, that was pretty fun!

Yet, I believe we have all watched the movies in English: I thought it would be quite funny to post here little vids of LoTR movies with the dubbing of our own country...

What do you think about it? I'm sure this would be pretty interresting to watch the well-known characters with different voices! :P
We could even vote for the best and worst LoTR dubbing ever! :P

Would be quite interesting... my country's native tongues are English and then French so I speak only those languages, but I have only ever watched the English films. Read the French books though, let's see if I can find a copy for the name translations...

Being French myself, I can easily find some clips on YouTube or so...

Well, I can't complain about the dubbing we had... Sure that it has nothing to see with the original version but I find the voices quite accurate...
Gandalf's voice for example is as deep and full of wisdom as Ian Mc Kellen's, same for the Hobbits...

No dubbing, no matter how professionally done, is ever great. It should be the original voices (for live action films - cartoons are ok) or nothing.

Sorry, don't mean to come off as harsh. I just hate dubbing with a passion and can't understand why it's done. The voice is half of the actor's performance, perhaps even more than that. You take away the voice, you take away the character and you're also robbing the actor of their efforts. Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow is perhaps one of the best examples of this.

We use subtitles in Sweden so you won't find any LotR dubbed into Swedish, hehe.

I think it's a wonderful idea, but I am afraid the LOTR aren't dubbed into Dutch, because we use subtitles, just like the Swedish.
I am pretty sure you could find some German versions though, because they translate everything to their own language. I can even remember seeing one of those German versions, it was hilarious to hear that, hehehe
