lol. I have seen it. I was pretty disturbed. lol. Those were some good quotes from that review too.
I wondered why Legolas looked Indian and the animation was terrible.
I don't know if any of you have read it, but in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien Tolkien mentions his "heart-felt loathing" for Disney and it's animation. Well, I doubt he would have been pleased with this then!

It was made before Peter Jackson's films. They came out, I believe, in the 60s or 70s...

EEEPP! *hides under bed and from being scared by animated versions*
I saw The Hobbit and ROTK by Rankin/Bass, it was scary! TOO MUCH SINGING!
When one of my friends said "Do you want to borrow The Hobbit", "yes" slipped out of my mouth and I was stuck watching it.
How can you call those animated 2 legged scary versions of Gollum Wood-elves!
I did a comparison thingy on the animated versions compared to PJ's, some people thought it was funny. Kind of what I planned.

Ok. People are talking about two different animated versions I believe. I just want to point that out to anyone who was confused. There is an animated "Hobbit" and "Return of the King" done by Rankin/Bass like Laureloth was talking about. And then there's the Ralph Bakshi animated movie called "J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings" that a bunch of other people were talking about.
I saw the Hobbit and Return of the King as a kid and liked them. (And I accually like the songs Laureloth ) I hadn't read the books so I didn't really have anything to compare them to. But when I read the books I was like "wow they mest up a bunch of stuff" Especially the Elves. Then after I saw PJ's movies I saw the animated "J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings" one and couldn't even sit through it it was so dumb. My sibs watched it all (I don't know how) but I just caught bits and pieces of it walking through the living room.

*nearly dies from laughter* I'd heard of the animated version (the one by Bakshi,) but I'd never watched it. I hadn't heard how horrible it was, either. I did get a chance to see it, AFTER watching all three of PJ's wonderful movies (God bless that man!) I was all excited to finally get a chance to watch the animated version on T.V.
...Needless to say, I was a wee bit disappointed.
Okay, wee doesn't begin to cover it. My first intial reaction was "Oh...my...word...why didn't anybody stop him?" Then, after recovering from shock, I broke down in a fit of laughter that lasted for about 3 days straight.
I'll give Bakshi some credit: he attempted a monstrous project that I could never dream of trying. But...I'm going to have to stick with PJ's movies.

Oh....I saw ROTK animated vesion. I adore Frodo, okay? He's my favorite. But, in this one, I was willing the volcano to blow up, not letting either of the *coughcough* "hobbits' (note my heavy sarcasm) escape without becoming barbeque......
I was spared seeing Boromir or Legolas in action, but I had to suffer through Elronds random glittery stars floating about his head.
And the songs....*dies* My sisters still sing them to torture me.
I must note, though, that I wasn't so put off by it that I didn't jump at the chance to show my recent LOTR convert the horror. I scarred her for life.
Nothing tops PJ's movies. Except the books, naturally.
*glances around, see's the confused faces* Um, Hi, I'm Gilly. I'm new........

We own the Hobbit animated version, and everyone in my Family likes it, we sing the songs and stuff, I think they're funni! haha! The "wood elves" are what were most disturbing, oh and Gollum. But I thought the rest were OK. The animated Return of The King was pretty cute too. But they're are two diff versions, of them.

The Ralph Bakshi one is TERRIBLE!!!!!! It switched from animated to real life people! Like they had real ppl in it too. It was SO DUMB! I can't believe anyone would make a movie consisting of BOTH animated things and real ppl behind screens.
Hey Gilly! I'm new too! haha! I joined b4 you and you already have more posts then me! haha! KK, well bubububi!

Well, I'm just a little obsessed when it comes to posting.
I've never actually seen the Hobbit or the Bakshi versions, but I've heard many stories of them....
And the songs do stay in your head. Forever.
"Where there's a whip *crack!* there's a way..."

Ohhh i have them all..
-The Hobbit is mostly for little children, although they won't understand anything. Nice music but weird character voices.
-Lotr first movie is funny because of the bad effects (real people in cartoon movie- bad idea), but if you like LOTR you can like to watch it sometimes. Peter Jackson like the movied and you can see realy similar scens in his movies (Fellowship of the ring).
-Lotr- The return of the king was made from the same production of The Hobbit^.
The "dubbing" stinks, the drawing is lame and it all accompanist with music and songs (most of the movie). But! I personally had fun watching it after I read the books. Its not that bad!

After seeing that movie i have one thing to say on the matter.
Did this guy even bother to READ the book?!
I mean, the animation is . . .well . . lets just say that i think they would have been better off just leaving the orcs in THE SAME STYLE AS THE REST OF THE MOVIE! I mean, you know, it's just so weird. Me and one of my friends watched it not long ago, around NYE, and oh hell, that bit at the beginning, when it says "Many years passed . . " or something like that, then you see the 'shire' (which is coincidently surrounded by mountains) and the seasons fade through, then all of a sudden they flash up like, really fast? Oh gods, i was laughing so hard i was crying! It was so funny.
And what annoyed me was at the Fords, it wasn't Arwen OR Glorfindel who rescued Frodo, it was Legolas, who doesn't happen to live in Rivendell, and the Nazgul can't control their horses! Then there's like this lightshow going on in the backround, and i swear, the one thing i thought more than anything during that movie was "What the HELL is going on here?!"
And is it just me, or does Gollum's head look like a mashed turnip?
Lol. It was awful. Thank god PJ did a better job!
