I really like Eowyn, because I find a lot of my own personality in hers... I think it's very important that Tolkien also created such a female character...

I love Eowyn a lot! She has been my favorite character ever since I discovered LotR, and at first it may have been because of the chick-kick-butt-too attitude, but now I appreciate her story and the changes she has to go to to find herself, a a place for herself in middle-earth. I believe we all have a little Eowyn in us.
P.S. Keep in mind this is an EOWYN APPRECIATION thread, not an ARWEN BASHING thread. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

I'm both an Eowyn and an Arwen lover! They both have beautiful, yet different stories.
I like how Eowyn plays the role of kind of a rebel. She wants to fight and do the things all the men get to do instead of stay at home like the women do. She wants to be different, and that's what I like most about her. She defies her uncles wishes to do what she's always wanted to do, and in the end finds that she really didn't want any of that in the first place.
She changes from that rebel girl who didn't really know who she was, or what she would be, to a girl who found love and finally knew her purpose in life.
Personally, I think all that took a lot of courage and strength which Eowyn and Arwen both have.

Wow, really good definition of her character, Larael!
The rebel inside of the young Éowyn is one of my fav sides of her. Annother would be her despair, her fear and her pain after so many family members of her had died. And that only one person would be able to heal all those wounds of her ... Faramir!

^Lol, thanks Éowyn and Elenwë! I'm glad you two agree.
Ya know, I don't see why people feel the need to trash Eowyn or Arwen. They are much more alike than people think...
Oh, not that anyone around here has been trashing them. I've seen it elsewhere though.

I agree. They are alike! And I have seen people completely destroy the beauty of the characters for others. And my view on that is that people are jealous. wehter they know it or not. People act like that cuz they are jealous. its silly and stupid and childish to put down a fictional character because you are jealous of them....

Merenwen wrote: I don't know is this counts as appreciation but I was wondering on your oppinions on this : Did Eowyn go to war with the intention of dying in battle and if so, why did she want to die?
she didn't go with the intention of dying..but women werent allowed to fight and she just couldn't stand to lose everyone around her and see everything she hold dear destroyed and just stand there and do nothing...she did it because she COULD...she went with the intention of fighting, I don't think she even cared if she lived ot not, but at least her fighting would make a difference, is one more soldier..how things were going, she thought she was probably going to die anyway, so is better to die fighting...that's just my wiev in it, I was supposed to die lots of times cuz of surgeries and stuff, but I'm still here cuz I fought for it

Eowyn is a very strong, brave woman who is not afraid to fight for her people. I love the way she speaks if you know what I mean. She speaks in a way that touches your heart. Same with Faramir.
