This morning, pretty much as soon as I got up, my mom told me "I have some bad news for you." That's never a good sign.
She saw on the news that Peter Jackson had said that he is certainly NOT making the Hobbit. Why?
Well, as I'm assuming everyone knows, there are a lot of legal issues to be worked out. Peter Jackson said he won't make it until they all are sorted out. So New Line pretty much said "OK then, forget you!" and is now looking for another director for the Hobbit. (!!!)
I personally am very unhappy about that. Middle Earth as seen by Peter Jackson is just... so wonderful! If they got another director, who knows if they'd even still use Weta or shoot in New Zealand?
The bottom line is... I think New Line's going to get mobbed by fans wielding replicas of Sting and Glamdring.

i Agree completely! including the whole sword thing. that's interesting to imagine...lol. if they do find a new director and has a new cast/crew, then it wouldn't be the same!!!! arg!!!!! we will fight :lightsabre: ! ok not really, but yeah it would totally suck if it wasn't filmed in New Zealand! wow i can't picture a tolkien movie without New Zealand!! grr!!

It would be folly to change the cast&crew because millions of ppl have seen LotR and are used to the way they are. If they'd change it.. well, they'd have us to deal with

I agree with you. PJ must be the director for "The Hobbit". There's no one else who could do this job!
Well, I read in the newspaper today that Ian Mc Kellen probably won't play Gandalf in the Hobbit if PJ isn't the director. So he will be the first one of the cast they'll have to replace. But who should take over his part?

Much as I dislike Ian Mckellen, he is Gandalf. They can't replace him too!
The problem is, if the new director just copied everything PJ did... it would probably be seen as plaguarizing (or how ever you spell that) his vision. And that vision is unequaled. Peter Jackson saw Middle Earth, for me, for all of us! He shared his vision with us, and it's found a place in our hearts. Thus a new vision for the Hobbit would feel strange, foreign, out of place.
Wow, I'm really getting into speech mode today... but this topic deserves it.

No one. Bilbo won't go on his adventure without Gandalf. I mean, Ian.

Are you kidding me?? Are we absolutely sure this isn't just another rumor or something?
Argh, what are we going to do??!
The movie will be all different, I mean, such a different air -- it won't feel the same! Like home! Like it should be!
*cools off a bit*
Well, we do have some hope. The public [meaning Ringers] will definitely be outraged if they are not already. Maybe it will somehow turn New Line around? I mean, the public has a HUGE influence...

This is really sad news I didn't even know about it until a day or two ago when I read the letter PJ wrote to TORn. That's awful that there's so much legal pressure going on, just when Ringers were starting to have hope that PJ was almost ready to try his hand at filming The Hobbit. Maybe they'll resolve their issues..."there is always hope"

so...sad....
................
i do adree Arwen, there is HOPE!!!! this also is horrible news! i didn't read the letter until yesterday and it's so sad!! no one can replace Ian for gandalf!!! he is gandalf!!! and the same for Hugo W.!!! he is Elrond too. if any of the actors were replaced. it wouldn't be the same! I agree! if the vision is changed from the way PJ saw it, it willnot be the same. it will also be a pain to watch!!!

^^Yes, Arwen... there's still hope. After all, I think probably fans world wide feel the same way we all do... which will mean that New Line will have to do some quick thinking if they don't want to enrage millions of people.

Well if they don't let PJ do it, they definitely won't have as much success with the Hobbit. I can't believe they'd do that after he's had so much success doing the LotR Trilogy! That's just outrageous... nobody can do it the way he can, and they know it. The Hobbit is going to be a really sucky film without Peter Jackson... only he can work Tolkien's magic...

Why don't they let him directi it in the first place? It wouldn't have the same spirit as LotR and I'd never watch it without Ian McKellen and PJ!

[whispers]
That is true, but at least we're talking about Lord of the Rings, and it really doesn't matter since the threads are not really in the wrong sections. It's relevant to all the sections. So what if we visit different parts of the forum ? We can still get the same info.
