One death that we didn't mention that I found terribly sad was Aragorn's, and later, though they didn't show it in the movies, Arwen's. I found the whole thing to be terribly bittersweet because, espcially in Arwen's case, they didn't have to die. they were dying for the people they loved. And Arwen had to linger on alone and in grief after Aragorn's death. And just to see someone as noble and brave and selfless and wonderful as Aragorn was die, even peacefully was saddening to me.

Starlight, I agree with you. Aragorn's might have been the sadest in the movies. The whole scene where they showed what would happen to Arwen while Elrond spoke was heart wrenching. Then when they showed Aragorn dead...it was terrible sad.
In the movies out of the list above for me the sadest death was Haldir. I was just not really expecting it at first and it was kind of like a punch in the face if you know what I mean.

For me Boromirs. To see one of the greatest warriors of gondor fall was very heart rending. I always knew Gandalf would come back. Theres no way Gandalf could be defeated so eaily.

^ Yeah, Haldir's was cool... but for me it didn't get me, cuz it wasn't in the book, so every single time I watch it, I'm sitting there yelling at the TV.

i can't decide between boromir's and haldir's. i thought they were both sad.

First, Gandalf's death. The Fellowship's reaction was heartbreaking, and since Gandalf had come to be my very favorite character, I was also very sad. Plus, in Lothlórien where even Galadriel was sad, that added up, for me, to be the saddest death.

Second place comes Théoden. He was the best king ever. And before he left for the battle of Pelennor fields he even told Éowyn "not to grieve for those who's time has come." Also, Théoden had been like a father to Éowyn, and when he died her reaction was very sad.

Third, for me, is Boromir. He died saving Merry and Pippin to make up what he did to Frodo. He regained his honor and died and changed man, which was moving to me.
