I had Gollum problems, too, though...

One of the funniest memories I have was when I saw TTT the first time (it was the first LotR movie I saw), and I kept asking my Dad if Gollum was evil or good. I totally didn't get his character at all... :duh: Anyway, my dad was getting annoyed, so he says in the calm, wise, father voice: "He's just misunderstood." I then proceeded to tell this to a friend who was obsessed with LotR at the time. She laughed her head off about Gollum being "misunderstood." Now it's a big joke between us, and everytime I hear the term "misunderstood" I think of Gollum.

LOL thats funny ... Gollum is very confuzzling, i must say ...

i think i thought Arwen was evil when i first watched it, cos i didnt realise it was Arwen ... and when i saw the FLight to the Ford, i thought she was riding with the Nazgul ... so i thought she was evil too

Haha! I really liked Arwen in FotR, but she got replaced by Eowyn. I was sort of mad when I learned that the Flight to the Ford scene wasn't even in the book.

do you mean that you thought that she was actually like evil evil? or just sort of annoying evil?

^Yeah, I knew there was another one in the book. It just seemed like they were trying to make Arwen 'cool', and I didn't like that once I found out about it.

Funny.
I just remembered that I thought that Osgiliath was just a dream and Merry and Pippin were Frodo and Sam.

Sauron and Saruman just totally confuzzled me. I thought they were the same person, and I thought that Mordor and Isengard were the same place, but the evil people saw it as beautiful (they saw Isengard, hence the pretty trees and flowers and etc.) and the good people saw it for what it really was (they saw Mordor, Mount Doom, red poisoned land, you get the point)

I was one confuzzled little kid. :P

I just saw it last year at the end of the year  I am such a failure. Me brother loved it though. I remember he came home and started babbling about 'Mary' and Pippin. I went into it thinking that Merry was a named Merry! I was so surprised to see a guy!

I also thought Frodo was really stupid at first when he tried to leave without anybody. I was like, 'WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!'

I was really confused about Aragorn and Arwen for some reason. I can't remember why. And I was angry that Eowyn loved Aragorn and Aragorn loved Arwen. I was like, come on!

Gollum also freaked me out. I was practically screaming at my TV. 'Frodo you idiot! He's a bad guy! Don't blame Sam!'

Haha. I didn't have any trouble recognizing Merry and Pippin though. Maybe becuz I instantly fell in love with Pippin. Who knows.

Sam

I watched the movies before I read the book and the first time round I thought LOADS of stupid things like...

* When we first caught a glimpse of Merry and Pippin my cousin (Who'd seen the movie 1000s of times before) told me "That's Merry and Pippin!" I mistaked it for a GIRL called Mary-Anne Pippin.

* I thought that Treebeard was the term for his species

* I thought Boromir had come back to life when I saw Faramir.

* I confused Aragorn and Boromir and then when Boromir died I thought that
Aragorn had.

* I confused Galadriel and Eowyn

* I thought Denethor was Boromir's GRANDFATHER

* I thought that the Witch King was Sauron

* I thought that Aragorn was a Nazgul when he disguised in Bree

* I thought that Denethor was KING

That's how stupid I was when I first watched LOTR but now it Inside Out lol. :duh: :duh: :duh:

lol, when i first watched FOTR i also thought Aragorn was a Nazgul when he was smoking at bree, specialy when his face lit up and went kinda red!

I hadn't read the books when I first watched the movies, so I got a bit confused as I went along. I really wasn't sure if Galadriel was good or bad - even after she sent them on their way with all their gifts!

I didn't really appreciate how important Boromir was in Gondor either - it just didn't click that he stood to be ruler of Gondor if Aragorn wasn't there.
How I managed that goodness only knows!

Of course, because I missed that rather important point, I didn't really get the significance of Faramir either - even though he said that he was Boromir's brother I spent the whole of TTT not having a clue why he was so important to the story.

I really don't think anyone can out-stupid that one!

YES!!!! I didn't think that the ring even existed, I thought that it was a dream. I couldn't tell any of the hobbits apart, so I thought that Frodo and Sam were in in Fangorn with Treebeard and just dreaming about Osgiliath.
