First I liked FotR best. Then I liked RotK best. Then I realized, that TTT is awesomely good as well. Now I can't choose, so when I speak of the movies, I speak of LotR, not FotR or TTT or RotK, unless I want to say something specific about one of them

The argonath, rivendell and Lothlorien are my fave places in middle earth, FOTR was a probably the nicest of all three as there is not many battles in it and they could focus a bit more on the comic element and also the story a tad more ..

^ I agree. but after all, they realte to each other - maybe - 99% so if one would watch only TTT (s)he wouldn't understand the thing at all. so I mostly think of them as one whole.

They must all be seen to get the story in its fullest, but I assume we are trying to decide which is best in regards to script, acting, etec m8.

Well, yeah, but since I'm not an expert on judging movies, I mainly think about the plot etc.......

I can't really decide it's very hard. I like TTT for the battle scenes, like FotR for the peaceful-ness at the beginning with Hobbiton and Imladris and I adore RotK for the climactic scenes and the end. I don't think I could choose.

I like FotR much because I love it when the Fellowship is still together, unbroken.

Yeah I like that too! And in the Extended Edition when they're fighting in Moria and Boromir and Aragorn are being nice to each other XD

Even before I saw the movies, just going by the books, Return of the King was always my favorite. It's the one at the end, that wraps every element of the story up nicely and the quest is finally ended. Though there are good points about all three movies: FOTR is the beginning and has a lot of good character development in it, TTT is very action-packed, and ROTK is the end and everyone is back together.

One thing that I have started to realize is that a lot of the time a person's favorite of the three says something about the person's personality. For instance, I like RotK best... and that's the one that really fits my personality.
But another thing I've come to realize is that I like RotK best only by a tiny margin. Last night they were showing TTT one TV, and just watching it again, even though I've seen it so many times... it sent thrills through me. All three work together to form one beautiful, epic story that captures my mind and heart.

to agree with a few of you
..TT is my favorite of the trilogy, although you can´t see one of the movies on it´s own, without wondering..what next..?

I voted for the last one. I can't really choose between them. The story is incomplete without any one of them.
