Has anyone heard of anything else by Howard Shore. I'm just curious because his LOTR albums won no.1 in Classical FM awards and they're such beautiful soundtracks, so why haven't i heard anything else by him since lotr? Does anyone know?

During or since the Lord of the Rings he has composed the score for the following films:
Gangs of New York (2002)
The Aviator (2004)
La Opresión (2005)
A History of Violence (2005)
Too Commercial for Cannes (2006)
The Departed (2006)
He's also about to work on the score for these upcoming films:
Maps to the Stars (2007)
Eastern Promises (2007)
Silence (2008)
The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt (2008)
When in doubt, IMDb.com is your friend

Never say never!
It's not the film that makes the composer do great music, it's the composer himself! There are so many crappy movies out there with amazing music. If the composer is talanted (like we all know Mr Shore is) he will compose awesome music regardless of the film! The score to Gangs of New York (by Howard Shore) is really, really good for instance. I haven't heard much of the others but I bet they're awesome as well!
Lord of the Rings was hardly the first score Howard Shore composed and I am pretty sure he was just as talanted before LotR as he is now!

i suppose so.
But there was sooo much to be inspired by with Lord of the Rings there's no question about that.

Do you think Howard Shore will be doing The Hobbit soundtrack or do you think since there is a new director, there will be a new Soundtrack artist???

I hope that Howard gets the nod to do the soundtrack for the Hobbit, but if he decides to pass on it because of the switch of directors, I wouldn't blame him...
Oh, and another movie soundtrack to add to the list (this is pre-LotR):
Dogma - 1999
Although LotR was still in its early beginnings at that time, listening to the Dogma soundtrack brings up some very recognizeable 'signature' movements in the music. Howard has a distinctive style...
