I hope Howard Shore continues with the "three notes" thingy he did all throughout the LotR soundtracks (in all the major themes, whether it is Shire, Fellowship, Gondor, Rohan etc, he uses the same three ascending notes) and it would be great to have the Shire theme in The Hobbit as well.
I can't wait to hear all the new themes he'll be composing!

^ I ceratinly hope so too. I'm thinking of what themes he can bring back but make them different. It will be interesting to hear what he does with locations that have been used before such as Rivendell as well as individual character themes.

I'm excited for new music, but I definitely hope he brings back some of the old themes...it would just be weird if the shire theme was different!

Read somewhere that he will Lookin' forward to his music. I'm a bit afraid to listen to the lotr-music to much that I get tired of it. If that's even possible... But with The Hobbit we get, hopefully, two new albums with some great music ^^

I've been looking forward to the soundtrack for years! I totally agree, he's got to bring back the old themes, and I can't wait to hear the new themes! I'm really curious about what he'll do with the Mirkwood elves' theme. They seem so much earthlier than the Rivendell or Lothlorien elves that I'm imagining a darker and much more "solid" variation of the choral texture he associated with the elves, if that makes sense.

Howard Shore must do it! The film would not be the same without his musical prowess supporting each scene. I definitely agree with you all that he should incorporate the old themes, but it will be so interesting to hear the new themes and music. London Symphony Orchestra again, hopefully? And Taurquende, your idea of the more earthy texture for Mirkwood sounds great. Darker tones and a heavier sound.

Oh yeah, Nicole, I hope that the London Symphony Orchestra comes back! And the boy's choir. . .what was it called? But I can't wait for the credits songs! I know that sounds a bit silly, but I LOVE credits! Anywho, just think, that when The Hobbit actually comes out, maybe they'll have a movie/orchestra thingy like at Radio City Music Hall in New York, with FotR, TTT and RotK! Wouldn't that be awesome?

London Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Voices have better be doing it again... And then about 5 years after the films the Royal Albert Hall might put on a screening of the Hobbit and the other film with the music being done live by the above... So annoyed I didn't get to go to the RotK screening but it was on a weekday during my first week of lectures at uni.. Still got to see TTT though Yeah, Howard Shore had better be doing the score. Otherwise I will boycott the films.
