I adore it! I learned to sing it, and I sung it during a worship servise at a church summer camp, what do you all think of the song?
"home is behind, the world ahead, and there are many paths to tred, through shadow, to the edge of night, untill the stars are al alight, mist and shadow, cloud and shade, all shall fade, all shal fade."

Is it not gorgeous? When I hear it I usually have to stop everything I'm doing and just listen.
What was cool for me was reading FotR and finding the original verse. You know, it doesn't seem very much like it--it's one of Bilbo's walking songs that he had taught Frodo. But I really like the way they changed the context...and the melody...too gorgeousness.

It's such a beautiful song. And Billy has an amazing voice. I remember reading that part in FotR, and after hearing it sung in RotK, it just didn't seem right! I agree: I love the way they changed it to make it a more...haunting song.

I agree with what everone else said. It's beautiful, Billy sings it wonderfully, and whenever I hear it I have to stop and listen.

What I love about it is that it is almost completely unaccompanied, so there are no distractions from the emotions in Billy's voice. It's such a mournful lament, perfectly suited to his voice - I've tried to sing it and I sound pathetic!
It's definately one of my favourite parts of the RotK soundtrack.

A very tragic requiem for Faramir's hopeless mission. I get teary-eyed each and every time I listen to it. And Billy should go composer.

I love the song. I heard somewhere that Billy is a professional singer. I didn't know that.

Well, he wrote the tune to it. But Philippa Boyens gave some verses to Billy one day and said, "Would you be able to come up w/ a tune to these verses?" and he did - in one day! That's what I call a true (and talented) singer/songwriter!!! I <3 that song! Billy wrote such a haunting tune to those haunting verses... it gives me the chills every time I listen to it.

The song is derived from a walking song in the Felloship book. Its changed a bit, but they definatly got it from there.
