I've got it! It arrived this morning

I haven't listened to it all yet (at 3 hours running time it'll take me a while!) but the first surprise was hearing Ian McKellan singing 'The Road Goes Ever On and On'. I certainly wasn't expecting that.

The CD's have the music from the extended edition, so it includes the music that didn't turn up in the original film as well. The DVD has the entire score on it, so if you can't be bothered swapping CD's midway, you can slip this into your DVD instead and listen to the lot in one go.

It came in a natty little box shaped like a book, with the DVD in the outer cover, while the CD's are in a cardboard box that sits inside the main box. There's also a nice little booklet that comes with it, which gives you a general insight into the music, rather than a slavish description of each track.

The packaging shows that this is an American release, so I don't think it will be in shops outside the U.S. (it certainly wasn't in my local record shops when I looked). I suspect that those outside America will have to rely on the net for it, but Amazon got it to me inside 2 days so it shouldn't be too difficult to get your hands on.

All I can say is - roll on TTT and RotK!

Be alert - the world needs more lerts

I splurged and bought it with Christmas money. I agree with Mablung...I think it was basically worth the money.

There are several bits that have never been heard in their entirety before, such as The Road Goes Ever On as already mentioned, and much to my delight, Bilbo's party music! Even the clip here on AU didn't have all of it. It's really wonderful. Another part I was thrilled with was The Passing of the Elves. I'd been enchanted by it in the movie, as someone who really loves vocals, and hearing the whole thing is great. It's really beautiful.

I'd say that if you're someone who really likes to listen to soundtracks, or someone who doesn't mind shelling out $60 for one CD set, it's well worth your money; go for it.

Eeee...I'd really like it, but I'm not sure if I want to shell out $60 for it. A bit too expensive...

YES, I've been waiting for it a long time! Once I've bought everything I want to buy (IPOD!), I'm sooo getting my hands on it.

I don't think that I'll be listening to the entire soundtrack in one go very much. I'm usually not doing the same thing for 3 hours (unless I just carry it around with me everywhere). But what I really want (besides hearing the new-ish stuff) is to just feel like I need to hear one part and just listen to it. All that stuff that wasn't in the normal soundtrack! I want TTT and RotK almost more, though. I want to hear Theodred's funeral song, and Eowyn's Healing, and all that good stuff. ^^

I was going to get it now, but something else came up that was more of a priority, so yeah I'll probably get it next month or so. Depends. At least some Swedish online stores have it, so I don't have to order from Amazon and wait for 2 months to get it once I do order it hehe.

They better release the TTT and RotK complete recordings in the near future as well

AHHHH I'VE GOT IT!!!!!!

It is TOO awesome for words *beams* AHH I'm in love with it, hehe. It's such a beautiful box, they really put an effort into it and I love that. If you ask me: totally worth the $66 (USD) I spent on it (including shipping and tax)! I've only listened through the first disc at the moment, and I'm ripping the first CD to put on my mp3 player. I'm gonna listen to the other two now.

I haven't been this excited about something since I bought the LotR Trilogy EE DVD box about a year ago
