Hello everyone! I've been working on a video game based on LOTR. (It's either going to be a sidescrolling hack-n-slash, or a platformer. I just need to decide.) I was just wondering, how does this sound the storyline: My character (Eruaran) is returning to his home, an elven viliage just outside Rivendell, and returns to find that his family was kidnapped by goblins. He tracks them down, all the way to the Mines of Moria and frees them, battles a cave troll and a goblin army with them, and meets up and joins with the Fellowship. This is just the beginning, I haven't thought of the rest, does it sound OK, or does it change the story too much? |

Yeah, I'd do that, but there's like 1000+ people on the site and that'd take a lot of work. Although that would be pretty awesome! ![]() Would a sidescrolling hack-n-slash(no jumping, emphasis on hand-to-hand,) or platformer( jumping and crouching, emphasis on exploration) sound better to you? |

I use the Game Maker game creation program. http://www.gamemaker.nl It's best for 2D games, but you can make 3D games too. But best of all it's FREE!!! |

Oh, and by the way, Lady Aramel, a hack-n-slash is like E.A.'s TTT and ROTK games, a platformer is more like the Hobbit. Either way, mine'll be a 2D sidescroller.(where the player runs back and forth on a 2D playing field, like the old Sonic and Mario games.) I just wanted to know what you think would work better for a sidescroller. Anyone else in the forum is welcome to voice their opinion, too! |

I think making a LotR videogame rocks! It is going to be an online game right? |

The story sounds good, except for the part about joining the Fellowship. Your character's adventure should be good enough to stand on its own. |

That's a good point, Iellwen_Eruanna. I think I'll change it. My character does traverse the mines of Moria about the time the Fellowship does, so he won't join them now, he'll go on a new adventure. I can't decide what game would be cooler. What sounds funner, a platform game, or a bird's eye view action/adventure game? |

Personally I think an overhead view is better. I agree with not having your character join the Fellowship, but it might be cool if sees/meets them. One idea, to make the storyline fit with the fact that your character (obviously) isn't in the books, is: He could need to help the Fellowship escape Moria by dealing with the goblin archers. However, since he's up on a ledge/ off to the side somewhere, they don't see him. Yet if he didn't help they wouldn't make it out safely. |

Hello everyone! I haven't had much time to post recently because of school and developing the game. I found a game engine to use, it's a good platform engine (btw Grey Pilgrim, I got the engine before I read your post and had done some work on the game, so I'm not ignoring your post.) So far I've got the jumping, shooting/ammo system, parrying, goblin swordsmen/archers, a life system, sound F.X., and some ideas for boss battles. The cinematics will be sort of like a slideshow with sound, because real movie footage would be hard, because you'd see modern houses and fences in the background, but with photos I can easily edit the background. So that's the update! Talk to you all later! |

I may release a demo, the gameplay probably won't be 100% as in the full version, I just want to see if the concept is ok. |
