Post subject:  Offering Elvish Help

Aiya ilquen!

I'm a brand new member here at this rather 'intimidating' site (well, intimidating because of the sheer size of the forum - I hardly know where to start!).

But I'd like to let you know I'm keen to help with any Elvish or Tengwar questions. I'm more comfortable with Quenya, but can muddle by in Sindarin.
A lot of the 'Help' threads in this forum are a bit old, and I'm not sure who still wants a hand or not.

So just holler and I'll do my best! :)

Welcome Nulómiel!! Indeed, you are very welcome here! As I have learned, just jump right in and start posting! Pretend you've known everyone for years... it always works!

As to your Elvish, I would appreciate any help I could get!! Shall I just start firing away on the list of questions?

Thanks for the welcome and the advice Fencing Maiden.
I have some time to look around a bit more today, so I'll try and be adventurous and step outside the Languages forum!
:P

You could post questions here, or if they are translation related, maybe in the main sticky translation thread ...

GL

I second green_leaf's question about Sindarin V.S. Quenya... I'm learning Sindarin at the moment, as that is the more widely used one in M-E (correct me if I'm wrong, please!).

Mae govannen green_leaf! :)

I don't think either Sindarin or Quenya is better than the other.
But I do think Quenya is more straighforward to learn for the beginner.
That may be because I studied Quenya first myself, it's what I'm more familiar with. But there's no reason why you can't learn Sindarin without knowing any Quenya - there are plenty of people here who can give you a hand if you need it! 8)

Sorry, I don't know what 'YaTT' means or what site you are talking about.
Could you give some more information?

Le Suilon,

YaTT, as far as i know is a powerful freeware to transcribe elvish written in an english like way into tengwar and vice versa. It's free and can be downloaded from the site:
http://linux.fjfi.cvut.cz/~nemec/tengwa ... /index.php

After filling a few details, it is supposed to send a verification key to my email, which is not happening. i sent a mail to the auther, but no reply yet.

if any of you have it or know another mirror for it, please let me know

regards,
GL

Welcome, Nulómiel. You and your elvish knowledge are very, very welcome here. I have a question. Do you know the conjugations for quenya verbs? I had a book, but its not very accurate.

Doh! :duh: Thanks Tyrhael!
That's not something I've ever bothered downloading. I have much more fun figuring out the Tengwar for myself!
But I've had no more luck than you green_leaf, unfortunately.
Seems it has gone offline (as mentioned here Amanye Tenceli).

Aiya Nauriel Rochnur! :)
Two places you can find info on Quenya verb conjugation are:
Quenya - the Ancient Tongue at Ardalambion
Table of Quenya Verbs at Lambë Eldaiva

I also have a Quenya 'cheat sheet' I created for myself when I first went through the Ardalambion Quenya Course, which breaks down the information more simply. I could email it to you if think that might be helpful.

Hey,

thanks for searching on my behalf!, I'd also love to have that cheat sheet. i'll be grateful to you if you can copy it to code_aragorn@yahoo.co.in too

thanks in advance,
GL

PS: i have posted the same querry in the main forum too. let me find it out somehow. it'll be a good tool to check with while lerning.

Okay, I've sent the document to your email.
Let me know if there's any problems with it.

For a glimpse of how the past tense has been formed in Qenya and Quenya, early and late, I would recommend reading Thorsten Renk's article about the Quenya Past Tense at his site Parma Tyelpelassiva.
