I've fulfilled my Foreign Language requirements, but I never was too interested in Spanish or French or any language my high school offered - I've always wanted to learn Quenya. I'm using this site: http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/qcourse.htm All Quenya speakers, how long did it take you to learn the language, how many hours a day, and what did you use to learn it? By the way, I know almost nothing right now -- I know how to pronounce the words, but I know nothing about grammar or sentence structure, or any vocab :/ |

Wow that sems like a good course! I think if you follow the course step by step you can make fluent scentenses in two weeks. (About one lesson a day) |

I don't really think a person could achieve fluency in two weeks. That's impossible. To be fluent, you have to be able to functionally hold conversations ranging over most topics in your language of choice. Two weeks wouldn't give you that. I would say it would take as long to become fluent in Quenya as it would to become fluent in any Romance language. They're not terribly different. |

I don't think it's possible to be fully fluent in Quenya... it was never fully created. But I gained a pretty good vocabulary and knowledge of sentence structure and grammar in one month. Obviously I've studied more since then... But it's really not that hard to learn, especially if you've taken other languages. |

Hello, i think, if you are too good, in a few months time you can get a grip on quenya. still it's a matter of practice to gain fluency. I was about to start learning Sindarin. Do you guys really think Quenya is better? Frankly i cannot learn both together. For sure i'll mess up things. Recently i got a coplete tutorial in Sindarin. Regards, GL |

Still, though, 2 weeks isn't much time to be able to speak even a little of a language. Even if you're not fluent at the end of two weeks, you would still probably speak it rather well! |

Well, I think it could take a bit longer than 2 weeks. Partially because you have to learn the irregular plurals, stems, and other things. I've only taken about 5 lesson at http://www.councilofelrond.com but I'm positive it would take more than 2 week s to become fluent in the language of Quenya. Aiya, i laurëa lótë ná vanima. |

My honest opinion about how long it would take to become familiar with the basics and comfortable enough to use them and remember them would be two months, give or take two weeks. |
