I have a friend who had a baby girl and named her Arwen. :) I really would like to give her a card written in Sindarin. (Since after my research I came across that is the dialect Arwen would speak - if that is wrong please tell me. )

So I am working on finding phrasing that works but the thing I am really lacking is finding the name Arwen written in Tengwar (?) (isn't that the elvish Script.) Any Ideas on where I could find that?

I am sure most of you can tell that I am new to the forum thing and the Sindarin/Elvish thing.

Thanks for your help!

Hi! If you refer to the following chart you can write Arwen with...

http://www.acondia.com/fonts/tengwar/info/belerian.htm

Vowel A -- not numbered in the chart but looks like a Roman C. See 'Additional letters' in the link.
number 25
number 24
number 35
number 21

The name will look a little bit like (using mostly Roman characters): cyu^n... well not exactly of course! as 24 has a line closing the top of the u shape for example.

This is the Mode of Beleriand. Incidentally this is the way it's written in the films (inscription for Arwen's sword).

And yes Arwen would speak Sindarin as a birth tongue (the type spoken in Rivendell). I would say she probably knew Quenya as a 'book language', as Quenya '... had become, as it were, an 'Elven-latin', still used for ceremony, and for high matters of lore and song.'

Glad to help Wisprilla!

And obviously you can make the writing fancier than what appears in the chart (the basic shapes of the Elvish characters), depending upon the style of lettering you choose.

Check out some examples as Amanye Tenceli on the web (if you like).

Thanks again.

Not sure I am artistic enough to make it all super pretty! I have a 5 hr plane ride to work on it though so hopefully it turns out ok. :)

Good luck!

I'll only add that if you find another way to write Arwen using Feanor's tengwar that doesn't mean that this way is necessarily wrong. The Mode of Beleriand (appears on the West Gate of Moria) is probably not as popular on the web (doesn't seem to be, to me anyway), so other examples of Arwen in the tengwar might look different.

Although you probably knew that anyway, so I'll stop rambling now :-D

Some good links here Elthir! Note the calligraphy is only a representation, so as handwriting differs, so too would the look of the character written by different people. The structure would still be the same.
