Once you get the phrase your looking for translated (be it Quenya or Sindarin) check out this section of the COE forum http://www.councilofelrond.com/modules. ... &tid=19919 . Uialdil_i_degilbor does an excellent job helping with the Tengwar. If you prefer the English sentance but in Elvish Script he can help with that too. Hope this helps :-D!

Could someone translate 'Dream Child' into Sindarin and Quenya for me?

Anyone there???

Well, dream is ôl in Sindarin and olor or olórë in Quenya and child could be translated into -ion son of or -iel daughter of....
That's all I can do for you... but I'm sure if you have a bit of patience the language scholars will stop by here soon.

"Child" is _hên_ in Sindarin and -hin or _hína_ in Quenya, so we'd get *Olchen or *Olorin, though the latter is too close to Olórin.

Is it true that there is no elvish (sindarin OR quenya) for the word forever, or always? I can not find it anywhere.

In Quenya we have _tennoio_ "forever" or _illumë_ "always" (or the short-lived _vora, vorë_, whereas in Sindarin the reconstruction *_na-uir_ might be found.

Post subject:

Um...sorry but...I didn't understand that?

So in sindarin it is nau-uir? What is the asterisk for? Does it have to have a dash like that?

Sorry if I'm being annoying... :(

The asterisk marks it as a reconstruction not actually found in any of Tolkien's published papers, but formed based on attested words and knowledge of compounds. As for the hyphen, _na_ is found sometimes with (na-chaered) and sometimes without (na vedui), so you could say either "na uir" or "na-uir".

Post subject:

Okay...so how do you pronounce na-uir?

Oh, and also how is na-chaered pronounced? I have always wondered. This is last question! =)

Sorry for the very late response! You can find a good site for Sindarin pronunciation here.

Wow... first response since September... lol!

Okay, so I was bored and was wondering what the translation of "silver rose" would be. I looked at a few elvish dictionaries and wasn't sure.

I could never find the word "rose". Like the flower. And was wondering if it would have to be translated as "silver red flower" and using the AU dictionary it would be "Celeb caran----" and they don't have flower, plus, I think the AU dictionary is a mix of Sindarian and Quenya, but I'm not sure.

but the translation "silver red flower" is almost confusing...

So, in either Quenya or Sindarian or both, could someone translate "silver rose" for me? Since I had no luck doing it myself?

If you want to do it yourself -> http://www.jrrvf.com/hisweloke/sindar

And if you want to download a program that translates single words for you, Dragon Flame is very good... pretty much a non-internet version of Hisweloke :P -> http://www.jrrvf.com/hisweloke/sindar/df20.html

Ah! I think I'd have fun looking for myself, I've always been intrigued by elvish... but, I'd have to download it? Grr... I'd have to beg my dad to allow me to download anything onto my computer...

No no, you can use Hisweloke as well... you don't have to download that :P
