I love this thread!
I don't think Legolas should be a cat! For one thing, cat's think they own the world and everyone should bow down to them. They are also cruel and sneaky, despite how cute they are. Legolas is not like that at all!
Wormtongue is definitely a snake; just ask Gandalf!
I think Eowyn is a palomino (spelling?). Though that sounds strange, it doesn't if you look at them.
Frodo is a rabbit, of course!
How could any of them be a panther, except maybe Lurtz?! Panthers are cruel, and ruthless, and they would tear someone to peices without even thinking about it! Somehow that just doesn't remind me of Aragorn, but...to everyone their own opinions...
I think Gollum is a fox, foxes are sneaky...
I can't really think of Arwen as ANY animal, except maybe a butterfly. They look pretty and graceful all the time and don't bother anyone but just drink nectar.
And Pippin is a koala! How cute!

Here's my ideas: Aragorn- Hawk Sam- Golden Retriever (he's loyal) Éowyn- Horse. (Like, a wild horse?) Éomer- Wolf. (He just SEEMS like a wolf.) Merry & Pippin- Beagles. (They're adorable and fun-loving) Legolas- Wild cat, like a leopard or cheetah. (Graceful but still dangerous) Galadriel- Swan. (I think the books made up my mind for me on that one.) Gríma Wormtongue- Snake. (Again, because of the books) Those are just the first animals that come to mind for me. I can't really think of what animals the rest of the characters would be

Here are mine for The Fellowship: Aragorn-A lion (magnificent, kingly and strong) Legolas- A blue bird (light, wild and free) Gimil- A boar (stocky and small, but strong) Boromir- A grizzly bear (soft and cuddly on the surface, big and strong underneath) Frodo- A flying squirrel- they DO exist (Just a normal squirrel by all appearances, but has a special quality about him when one looks closer...lol I don't know. Pippin- a monkey (goof-off and silly, but serious when needed) Merry- a woodpecker (persistent and diligent) Gandalf- A whale (significantl and eye-catching) I can't top the idea that Sam is a golden retriever....

Panthers, nor any other animals, are not cruel or ruthless. Humans are. Animals kill to live, if that is to eat or to protect, it's to survive. I was thinking Arwen being a dolphin maybe... Now I think about it, Frodo should be a zebra x] Dunno why though
