Post subject:  mithril/titanium

in science we're doing about metals and today my science teacher told us that tolkein based mithril on the metal titanium!
was quite interesting actually!

Does your teacher have any evidence to back that up? Because I doubt he really based it off of an existing metal. Super-strong metals have been a common feature in fiction literature, so there's no real reason to think he took the idea from titanium.

i feel that tolkien might have imagined things better than real world metals.

Yeah Titanium isn't exactly light as a feather but it is hard so it may be possible that he did

Yeah it dosn't take a lot of resaerch or imagenassion to think of a type of metal that's super strong and hight. (though cool) But I don't know if he did or not. :)

Hmm.. I don't think mithril is similar to titanium.. at least not according to Tolkien's descriptions. Does ur teacher have anything to back his statement up??
I think it's cool to talk about Tolkien in Science though :)
