On this day on September 21st 1937, Tolkien’s amazing book “The Hobbit” was published!
I caught sight of this anniversary in the newspaper today, and would probably have noticed it on my Tolkien calendar if it was flipped to the right month, hehe!

To me this seems a very important anniversary and I just had to make a thread for it; The Hobbit has been around for so many generations yet it’s never lost it’s skill to captivate and enchant all audiences.
I first read it when I was a very little girl and my parents gave me, my brother and sister a beautiful edition of the book, illustrated by Alan Lee, one Christmas; it was a book that all three of us could enjoy, despite our varying tastes in books at that time. The world of The Hobbit drew in all of us; it was a gateway to The Lord of the Rings, which all of us read when we were a little older. I’m so glad that we were given the book that Christmas; little did I know then, but it was the first step in what would be for me, and still is, a long, constant enchantment with absolutely everything Tolkien, and becoming the loyal Ringer that I am today.
Happy Hobbit Day to all!
