Ah, people have been doing this for years. I remember first reading about these pointed ear procedures about five years ago. In all honesty, I find it pretty stupid and ridiculous to be spending all that money to disfigure yourself into appearing like a fantasy creature... permanently. Not to mention... Quote: She is a little portly for an Elf and also Elves are supposed to be fair to look upon. Sorry but she still looks all too human. ^ Said by one commenter, who I agree with completely. If she wants to look like an elf, she needs more than just an ear procedure. Liposuction and a facelift might do it. I just find this whole thing stupid. The only thing I've done to my looks that was inspired by Elves is growing my hair 3 ft. That's it. |

I don't think it's any different from other extreme body decoration - and by extreme I mean planned surgical changes that has a lasting effect on the body. If people really want to do it I wouldn't be the one to stop them, and I can see how cool pointy elf ears would be in LARP settings and to fantasy conventions etc. This is just taking your fandom to the extreme. But would I do it myself? No! I think it's a bit like living in a dream permantly more than living your dream... no matter how much people change themselves they will never become one of Middle-earth's immortal elves. They will look like they're wearing a Halloween-prop all the time when in fact it's only cool at Halloween. No one will go like "Oh wow, look at that elf". They will be like "Whoa, dude, you have funny ears" - if they even notice. Alright, so people have piercings and tattoos and all kinds of body decoration.. I have tattoos too so I'm not one to judge other peoples' fetishism - especially not on things that make people happy! |
