So I just read that Christopher Tolkien resigned as head of the Tolkien Estate! O_@

Anyone else hear anything about this or have any idea what it is all about??!?

I read something about him hating the fans? O_O I mean... Really??

I think his resignation had more to do with his age. At 93 I suspect he's slowed down a bit. As for the rights to Tolkien's other works, I believe they remain with the Tolkien Estate, and his resignation would not affect the terms if the Trust.

Christopher’s sister Priscilla is 88. His wife Baillie will be 76 soon. Michael George Tolkien, eldest son of Christopher’s older brother Michael Hilary Reuel, is 74. Simon Tolkien, Christopher’s eldest child by his first wife Faith, will be 59 soon. These are directors of Tolkien Estate, Ltd. Christopher’s children by Baillie are Adam (48) and Rachel (46). Simon has two children, 27 and 12. Michael Hilary Reuel has two further children besides Michael George, daughters Joanna and Judith, who also have children, and Michael George has a child from his second marriage. Perhaps someday someone will do a soap opera based on the Tolkien Family, just the ones descended from JRRT (his younger brother Hilary also has several living descendants).

Now I have a headache.

Anyway, a thought that manages to weasel its way through is who, if at all, might “replace” (simply in warm-body count at meetings) Christopher? Many whom I mentioned above (with or without names) are in the 40 to 50 range, so they would, in the US with the right birth certificates, be eligible to be elected president. A less demanding office, taking the performance of the current impostor, than officer of the Tolkien whatever legal unit.

You may be right ES, I don't know. I know he had some rather ill things to say about the direction things have been taken, though.

Yes, Gandolorin, that is what I am wondering. Who will take over and a bigger question yet... How will they handle things.

Well, now I’m talking about times none of us will live to see. Like Shakespeare plays which have been modernized in uncountable ways, what would the ghost of The Bard say about them (and about JRRT making real his “until Great Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane Hill” of MacBeth in the Battle of Helm's Deep with the appearance of the Huorns)? Would his comments be PG-18? Or even the operas of Wagner as presided over by diverse descendants of his, with diverse directors? Much else could probably be said about books and more often plays whose copyright has utterly expired. Charlton Heston as Moses in “The Ten Commandments” … :confused2:

A (perhaps?) small item from the Tolkien Society homepage:

"It is understood that Christopher remains the literary executor."

Whatever that may mean.

the timeline for a moving company to complete a move will depend on a variety of factors. To get a better idea of what to expect, it's a good idea to consult with a few different moving companies to get estimates and learn more about their specific processes Trusted Marvell, AR Auto Movers
