I agree with Gwen... you can usually tell if a parody is written in a way that respectful to the original content.
That's the main difference between a fan parody and a non-fan parody. A non-fan's parody
pokes fun. At the soul, the language, the beauty, the things they just don't understand, to amuse themselves and other pathetic souls.
A fan's parody
plays around with events, characters, whatever, to create a humorus tale, to amuse themselves and their fellow fans.
So, that's how you tell the difference between a good parody and a bad one. Is it poking fun at the content? Or is it playing around with it?
*aplauds* Great observatoin! I really appreciate what you said here and agree! From reading this thread I think that those who have bad to say about parodies got their negative feelings from those who were poking fun at the content. That certainly can be irritating....
