The last goldfish we had I named Frod, Sam, Merry and Pippin so yes I'd name a pet after a LotR character
For a child it would have to be a LotR name that is also an normal name like Sam or else a little known character's name (like Elanor ). I wouldn't want to call them something that was too obviously LotRish like Arwen or Frodo - for one thing they'd be bound to hate LotR if I did that

*agrees* I think you would make your child hate LotR if named him/her after a LotR character and that is what I wouldn't want...

lol yes definetely. And because of that I think he/she would never become a Ringer and so I wouldn't name a child after a LotR character

Yes, I agree. I'd only name my kid a name like Sam. And then I wouldn't stress LotR, either. Once they got older, maybe they'd be like "Oh, cool, I have the name of a character in LotR." If they like it...which I hope they do. I might name a daughter Elanor.

I've heard of people with names like Galadriel and Rohan. I would never do something like that to an innocent child who may never like Lord of the Rings. I would like to name a Newfoundland Halbarad, however.

Names like Rohan and hobbit sound like names of pubs and inns!

I had a dog called Idril, so yeah, I would. But I don't think I'd call a child something from LotR...
And one of Bob Marley's sons is called Rohan. I don't think it's because of LotR tho. I think it's kinda cool

I don't have any pets but I have a closet full of stuffed animals, and every last one of them has a name from lotr or pirates of the carribbean.
but no, i wouldnt name a child like that cuz i wouldnt want them 2 be made fun of in school!! which i think is a good enuff reason...

I'm (hopefully) getting a kitten, and I'm thinking of naming it Frodo. I've no idea why, I just felt like it... I don't like Frodo any better than the other characters, but yeah... We'll see. I'll tell ya's if I do

I lobbied hard to call my dog (Shih-tzu cocker spaniel cross) Frodo or Pippin. He ended up being christened Bandit, but I still think he would have made a good Frodo. At least he's not Ryan Smyth, like my annoying brother wanted to call him. I may live in the Land of Hockey, but that DOES NOT mean I have to like it!
I actually half-know someone whose name is Arwen, but I don't think I could do that to a kid. I would totally call a girl Nessa or Nienna, though. If/when I get married, if my husband isn't a Ringer, we could settle for Vanessa instead and I could just call her Nessa. If it's boy I would call him Samwise

Good plan
If I marry a Regnir, I shall certainly make him a Ringer. I shall force him to watch LotR every evening That may be a bad plan, btw. I want to call a daughter Una. It's an ancient norwegian name

^Where's the next question? Oh well, I'll give a question.
If you were Gollum, would you follow the Fellowship through Moria?
