I think it's all because of his fear to loose Padme. (although the cutting Maces hand off and turning was a bit quick in my opinioin)

It was his mother..... Something inside him snapped when he lost his mother.... Then when Padme told him of her dream, all that fear came back to him... He couldn't stand it... He loved her too much to let her die, and he would have done anything to save her.... Anything at all, even turn to the Dark Side....

Yeah, that was really sad.... *sighs* Only thing that saved my character was that she left the Order before all the assassination attempts....

Yeah several of mine that i have made were like WAY out in the outer rim doing missions and escaped that way.
