Well. When you start RP'ing, the first thing you have to get settled, is your character. I've made a little template for you to use, if you can't come up with anything yourself. The owner of the RPG you're joining might ask you for more information, but this'll just be the basics.

Name:
Age:
Race:
Class:
Skills:
Eyes:
Hair:
Height:
Weight:

I'd say PM your characters history to the owner of the RP. Or if you know characters within the story, tell them too. In normal settings, I wouldn't've known your history to begin with, either. It makes it a bit more realistic to leave it out.

So there. Now you're set with character? If you have questions, feel free to PM me or post here in Help and Ideas. :)

None of those are required. :) Simply possibilities. Also, you can put your character's apperance in one, as so you're describing it more detailed how she looks. The template above is just a help. :)

I think this work as a great basis where you can add weight and others stuff as you want unless the rp creator demands specific facts(which would be odd...)

and an rp? Well first you can decided is it a LOTR or not... then you can just think up a subject.

Examples:

In lotr you can just start an rp with no destination in the beginning until you sort of create one along the way or fr example I am in an rp named: The Prisoner where they are taking a murderer into Gondor for trial(I think), this is Maldrids rp so he has few suprises about his char probably(since he plays the murderer), where my char comes in is just trying to make some money and let the murderer out so that the rohirrim would have more to worry about than his thievery...

Or you can just look trough any rp and look what subject interests you and join it since a new addition is always welcome to many :-D

wait... >< the only thing I found wrong with it is: gender...! some names are hard to figure out if they're male or female... other than that I LOVE this one!

Nice template, but what is meant by 'class' ???

I agree that the background really isn't needed in a raw RP sense. It can come out in dialogue during character interaction if the situation calls for it. The things inherently noticeable when a character walks into a room full of strangers should be part of the initial character profile. That would be the appearance items like height, weight, hair, eyes, type of clothes, and race, but not necessarily specifying sub-race. It may be apparent by the clothing that the man is a Gondorian or of the Rohirrim, but maybe not. Names are usually given in the first few posts, and to know who the profile is for, you would have the name. But a stranger would have no idea what the skills or age are.

So a different basic visible character profile could be the following:

Template:

Name: (include nick names)
Date of birth
Species:
Place of birth:
Home: (Type of home/ neighbourhood)
Gender:
Sexuality:
Height:
Build:
Appearance:
Personality:
Skills:
Family background:
Other close relationships:
Job:
Dress Style:
Attitude to religion:
Favourite pasttimes:
Hobbies:
Strongest positive personality trait:
Strongest negative personality trait:
Sense of humour:
Temper/disposition:
Consideration for others:
Best childhood memory:
Worst childhood memory:
Best adult memory:
Worst adult memory:
Primary goal:
Deepest fear:
Formative Years: (Really expand: sum up their entire childhood and teen years)
Other Notes:
