Katria went and sat by her new friend (will's char), and she ate, but very little. She had grown used to going hungry, which caused her to become hungry even less often.

*Sen nodded to Deawen.*
It is true, the fewer the number, the greater the honor. There must have only been one Shang Dragon per Elsent, for their position to be thought of so highly. Is this true?

Dea nodded " yes though Two for the king" Dea replied
" the Elsents are dead but the shang dragon's remain a puzzling mystery " Tainar said with a laugh

Firyal had followed Deawen, sat next to Katria and listened to the conversation. She ate some rice and bread but left the meat untouched. It was strange how even among slaves there could be ranks. She couldn't be bothered with them though, the only rank she wanted to earn was that of a free human. She smiled reassuringly at Katria and watched Deawen who seemed, unlike herself, to have accepted her fate.

" where do you all come from?" Tainar asked changing the subject to please the more skittish slaves. " Dea you start," Dea scowled slightly " North, I was a nomad" she said tainar laughed alittle " leave it to Dea here to never give a straight answer" he pointed to each SLave present to tell where they came from.

Firyal muttered something about people having difficulties with their pasts but her words probably weren't heard by the others. When she felt all the eyes were on her she sighed and spoke, not perfectly able to hide bitterness in her voice. "I was born in the South of Gondor, close to the border of Harondor. But later on I've lived everywhere one can imagine."

Durga took a sip of wine and answered, "I found a lovely new cosmetic box." She paused for a moment, carefully chosing her words. "Father, I heard an old woman speak of the Elsent, and how its return would cause the kingdom to crumble. What does it mean?" Lord Ardol stopped chewing and set down his silver goblet. "What did you say?" he asked slowly. Durga repeated herself, and Lord Ardol excused himself from the table hurriedly to the sideboard. He scribbled out a quick message and thrust it at one of his guards with a mumbled instruction. His face was slightly pale. "Dinner is finished." It was a command, not just a statement. Durga fled to her room. She had never seen news affect him like this. She stared at her lamp for a long time, listening to the silence.

(welcome back! )
a bell rang somewhere signifiying that the Ardol's had finished their supper and those with domestic posts were needed. only a few slaves got up including Dea, " a bit early for them to be finished" Tainar remarked. He noticed that she had hardly eaten, she rose quickly and went up the servants stair in the far corner of the hall that would take her straight to the ladies quarters. she entered Durga's room silently her feet barely making any noise.

(Funny story. I actually met an Indian woman in LA named Durga. I almost started laughing when she said that. Could have been bad.)
After a while, another light was lit and Dorgon came and sat beside her. "What was it that I said?" asked Durga quietly. Dorgon put his arm around her shoulders and sighed. "You don't know how the kings came to power, do you?" Durga shook her head. Dorgon explained the story. Durga looked at him and said, "They usurped the throne?" Dorgon nodded. Before she could continue, Dea entered the chambers. Dorgon said, "I will say no more tonight. Goodnight." He gave her a squeeze then left. Durga layed down and gave a look to Dea, even though it was too dark to see.

(morwen....you remebered all the history I wrote for Bredena? lol it was seven chapters long!)
Dea sat quietly at the far end of the room " I am sorry if I interruppted anything," she said very quietly, it was now dark and the earth was cooling fast. Dea got up and shutt the lattice windows and drew the sheers.
Dea dissipeared back into the main corridor and into a small kitchen a uniuqe feature to the house every level had a small kitchen equipt with a small stove fresh water and a few basic comforts it's purpose was for coffee and Tea. Dea put water to boil and began crushing dried orange peels, clove and rosehips into small pieces but not to a powder. Dea added the herbs and let them steep for a few minutes. Dea gathered on a tray the tea and a ceramic tankard and a bowl of honey. they were indeed well to do if they had honey in such quanities. Dea carried the tray to Durga's room and set the tray on a nearby table, then quickly retreated to a corner "

Durga smelled the tea. She sat up and took the cup, sniffing gingerly at it. "Leave now," she said simply, not even looking to the corner where Dea lurked. She lit another lamp and sat at her desk. Picking up her quill, she pulled a sheet of paper toward her. She looked at the paper but didn't know what to write.

Dea rushed out of the room down the corridor down stairs to the courtyard. the cool night air was refreshing. she padded across the courtyard into the weaving rooms. she lit a lamp and sat behind her great loom and masterpiece. she sat relaxed as the fimilar hiss of thread and the fitfitfitfit of the brush and the clang of wood. soon she was working without thinking her mind unwound and relaxed began to wander. soon her thoughts traveled to the day's events She was a handmaiden....not too fun she was almost finished with the silk cloth and would soon be free, change threads now the Market...what was all that about? the Elsents were dead right? what is everyone afriad of? it's just a person not a vala... Dea had no comprehention of the Elsents she hardly understood what an Elsent was only that they ruled not too long ago. this was all very confusing to a simple slave.

She saw the city as a bird sees it. At first it looked normal. A moment later, flames lick at the palace and a golden mist creeps through the four quarters of the city. The flames and the mist meet, and everything fades into a pure white light...
Durga awoke when the moon shone through the cracks in her shutters onto her face. She sat up, looked and saw that she had written nothing. She scribbled down her dream, took up her cloak and crept to the courtyard. The only sound she could hear was the clacking of the loom shuttle. She took a look into the dim room and saw Deawen at work. She disregarded it and slipped through the front gate. She made a bee-line through the shadowy streets to the palace. She knocked on the door of the guard house and came face to face with a grumpy watchman. When he saw who it was is expression was forced into something a degree more cheerful. She pushed the note into his hand and he nodded. "For the princess," she whispered before slipping back into the shadows and back home.

Hours passed before Dea stopped to take a break. Her fingers where red and close to bleeding but she hadto finish the cloth soon two more nights and then she was done. she went back to her weaving back to the fimilar patterns and rythyms she saw Durga pass with cloak in hand and decided that whatever Durga was up to she didn't need to be involved....but then again if anything was to happen to Durga....she could be blamed for not intervening..Dea got up and went for her course cloak. she quietly followed Durga keeping to the shadows. she wasn't snooping she kept telling herself but could not help thinking she was... when they reached the palace Dea slackened her pace and nearly fell over a barrel trying not to be seen as Durga headed back to the house... Dea continued her following. soon a group of drunken Soldiers came down the lane, Dea knew trouble when she saw it. they spotted Durga and Advanced upon her. Dea's heart leaped and she ran over... " Leave Her Alone!" Dea shouted with a sudden burst of courage. the Soldiers turned to face their challenger and nearly laughed when the saw the small slave girl. " yer a bit small to be giving us orders " one said the others laughed " just a slave girl " another said " seems to me she needs a lesson on respect for freemen" the leader said taking a few steps forward. Dea gulped this was not what she had in mind she frantcaly looked around for something to defend herself with nothing....Dea looked down a loose cobble stone caught her eye.. she quickly picked it up and waited for her attacker to cme into range. soon he was and Dea launched the rock it ht him in the nose he Roared with pain Dea took the oppertunity and Ran.
