Ruth Ann drew silent when she heard the mention of hobbits. She didn't want to believe what she knew was true, so, instead of accepting it as truth, Ruth Ann snuck up to the top by herself to make out the battle scene.

Anira remained silent as she listened the discussion between the rangers. There was only one thing that came to mind with metal boots-Black Riders. Could these be the hobbits I have heard about? she wondered, remembering the rumors she heard about the brave halfings who had traveled in the wild.

Anira nodded silently. "I know of no other creature that leaves such tracks," she remarked quietly in their native tongue. "If indeed they were attacked by Nazgul then it can only mean that the Dark Lord has grown more desperate." She sighed then, knowing instinctively what it would mean for them all. "It looks as if we are bound to see darker days and longer nights," she remarked. "Unless we can put a stop to his reign of terror."

"'Tis a grave prospect indeed," said Alahra. "The darkness has deepened." She gazed at the sky and the stars that glittered hopefully. "But who did they attack, and for what purpose?" she mused.

"From the look of the tracks, it was four halfings and I believe a ranger." Anira replied a bit absent mindedly as new thoughts raced to her mind. What could the Dark Lord want of four halflings and a ranger? Unless they had something of great value.... her thoughts trailed off again as she turned to look at Alahra. "There is only one purpose that I can think of." she remarked quietly. "And I think you know what it is too-the only reason that he would send his greatest servants into the wild....to retrieve what he created long ago." she remarked.

Alahra looked at her, a slow realization freezing her. "You do not think that it would be...it cannot be." She was quiet for a long moment. "Four Halflings and a Ranger indeed...but who were these five?" she wondered aloud, staring musefuly at a rock lying by."If your suspicions are correct, than times have become more dire than I had realized."

Armith sat right outside the group, staying silent with her hood pulled over her face. She listened to the two women talk. Getting up, she studyed the tracks caused by the metal boots. A shiver ran down her spine, having a pretty good idea of what caused them.

Ruth Ann had been very attentive to what was going on around her. She had a careful ear and picked up the whole conversation between the two ladies, and, to her dismay, the tracks on top of Weathertop appeared to justify their conclusion.

The names of her friends soared through her mind as tears scurried down Ruth Ann's face in their own distinct tracks. Not wanting to draw attention to herself, Ruth Ann ran over to the other side of Weathertop, the farthest away from anyone else, and sat down to think and ponder.

Alahra was aware that there were others that heard their conversation, but it did not worry her. She had said nothing that she would not have said to any other.
"If Isildur's bane is found," she said more quietly now; her words were for Anira's ears alone. "Then he will stop at nothing to retrieve it. He will destroy whoever steps in his way. This bodes ill for all of Middle Earth. Perhaps then, it is good that our people shall soon be departing. And yet we are not exempt from the fate of Middle Earth's people," she added.

Anira nodded and replied in an equally hushed tone. "Yes, his wrath will indeed be great, but there is some hope that he is not yet at the pinnacle of his power." She paused for a moment before speaking again, her tone still hushed. "Perhaps it is good that our brethren our leaving these shores, but we are still part of Arda, and our greatest gift to the children of this world will be a world of peace. As long as the Dark Lord remains, I could not in good faith depart while the rest of the world in plagued in darkness. For if he is not stopped now, I fear his malice will soon reach Valinor and encompass its beauty in an everlasting shadow."

Ruth Ann picked herself up and wiped the tears from her cheeks. As quickly as she could, she ran down to where all of the supplies were and grabbed ahold of her bag, tossing it onto her back and preparing to leave.
