The air around her hand felt odd, as if swirling around her hand. Then Niko froze at her words. How could she control the wind? He decided to try something himself. He got up and lit a candle and then left it on the other side of the room, away from the open window. He then returned to Nienna. ''Can you put it out from here?'' He was curious. If she really could control the wind.....

She looked at him, frightened. "I...I don't know." she stuttered. She turned her focus to the wind, sending it to her hand again. She focused all her energy on it and closed her eyes concentrating. When she opened her eyes they had turned gold. She stared at the candle then turned her palm towards it. The wind shot out, not only snuffing the candle out, but toppling it over. Her eyes returned to brown, and her face went white, her jaw dropping.

Niko sat, stunned, rooted to the spot. Nienna, his very own wife, was able to control wind. He reached towards her cheek and caressed it, ''Your eyes, they glow gold'' He could find no other words. He turned and reached towards the table and poured himself a cupful of ale, draining it all at once. He then refilled it. ''How is this possible?''

She got up with trembling legs and walked to the window. Hugging herself. Her eyes turned gold..? She wondered as well. How was it possible, and why had it only shown up now? "I don't know." her voice was strained. The only possibility she could think of was that she wasn't really who and what people had told her she was her entire life. But why would they lie? She grabbed her robe and donned it, shivering, but not from cold. Who was she? She set her hand on the pane of the broken window, as if it might hold the answers she sought after. the glass shards were leaving cuts in her hand, but she didn's notice, too cought up in her own thoughts.

Niko drained another cup of ale, before laying down on the bed, looking up at the roof. So much had happened in the past few days. He had married, fought, almost died before actually dying and now he had found out his wife could control an element at will. This was not easy to take in. In all his time he had never heard of such a thing. He lay there wondering to himself, hardly noticing Nienna by the window.

She looked back at Niko. He was upset, she thought. He was deep in thought. Her hand gripped the window harder, blood dripping down over the broken glass. She needed to find out what it was, and she needed to stop it. She took her hand from the window and walked silently to the door of the room, and Niko didn't notice. She opened the door and left, silently, with her cloak in hand. Once outside the door, she donned her cloak and decided to go the the historian's place. She asked The bar keeper where to find it. She left the tavern.

Was she a witch? He had heard tell of the wizards, such as Mithrandir but then remembered that a wizard always bore a staff. What could it be then? ''Nienna?'' He looked to the window and she was gone. He sprang up and ran to the window and looked down, he saw blood on the window sill. He looked down and saw her walking the street, clearly on her way somewhere. Cursing, he threw on his attire and vambraces and left the room. ''Looking for your wife?'' He turned to find the bar keep, he nodded. ''She's off the the local historians. Let me tell you where to find it.'' Niko took directions and then left to follow her. Why must she keep going off alone?

She got to the historian's library and knocked on the door. A wizened old man peeked put. "Hello, I need to look at all the history you have on Gondor, Please?" he nodded an let her in, showing her where the books were. She flipped open book after book, until she found a dated page, with her name. Her face went ashen as she read. There had been a local elf witch in Gondor, and she had fallen in love with Faramir, yet he returned not her feelings, only loving his wife. One night, the elf witch took on Eowyn's form, and laid with Faramir, and he didn't know it wasn't his wife. Some time later, she bore him a daughter and told him unless he paid her a sum every year and took te daughter in as his and Eowyn's, she would curse his family. Eowyn and Faramir agreed, fearfull of their family's life. They knew it was Faramir's child because after the elf witch had lain with him in his wife's form, she revealed herself to him, and being nine months later the child was born there was no doubt. They named the child Nienna, after the elven goddess of sorrow, because the circumstances under which she had come to them had been sorrowful. Nienna gasped. How could this be? And no one told her? She sat trembling, staring at the page yet not seeing it.

Niko followed his way until he found himself at his destination. He opened the door and looked inside, seeing no-one. He stepped inside and looked around If she's in trouble having left me I will kill her ''May I help?'' Niko turned to find an old man looking at him. 'Forgive me' he said as he inclined his head. ''I'm looking for my wife, she was coming here earlier'' The man gestured to the right and Niko thanked him. He turned a corner and saw Nienna sat down, staring at a peace of parchment. He was just about to tell her off for leaving without him when he saw the look on her face. ''Nienna, love?'' he bent down next to her and began to read, his face looking more shocked by the second. After finishing he looked at her, and the look on her face broke his heart. He reached tentatively to her shoulder.

She trembled more at his touch. What would he think? "they never told me." it was a hoarse whisper. "Nobody ever..." her voice choked up. She was half elven, with powers. She was almost ready to toss the book to the floor and burn it. How had she not known?

Niko didn't know what to do or say. He took her hand and pulled her towards the door. ''Let's get back to the tavern, we can talk about this'' He wanted to get her away, some place private, in case her emotions got the better of her.

She allowed him to take her back to the tavern. Her mind was reeling with shock. They got back to the room she walked to the window again, staring out blindly. Why had no one told her? She had a right to know! Her jaw clenched. She should have known! She herself should have known! It made sense now. Until now she had no reason to use her power, and it had been awakened in her greatest time of stress. She didn't know what to think.

Niko sat down on the bed and got himself another cup of ale. He was in shock as well. He knew that half elves were a rare occurrence and now he had found himself married to and in love with one. He couldn't think of what to say to comfort her. ''You shouldn't blame yourself. You had no way of knowing. Also know that this changes nothing between us. I still love you as your husband.''

She walked to the bed and stood in front of him. "You are sure this changes nothing of the way you feel?" she said quietly, almost fearfully. "I don't know if I can do anything else, I don't know anything. I don't know who I am anymore, Niko..." she met his gaze "All I know for sure is that my love for you hasn't and will never change."

He looked up at her. Normally he would respond to her question with a joke, but he was deadly serious now. He took her hand and had her sit on the bed. Niko kneeled in front of her on his knees. He was humbled by everything that had happened to them and that they were still together having come through all of it. He took her foot and pressed his lips to it and looked up at her, never looking away from her eyes as he spoke, his own love for her clearly shown in his eyes. ''My dearest Nienna. You have saved my life on multiple occasions, you have tended to me when I was sick or wounded, you rescued me from the dungeons of Gondor and brought me back to the world of the living after I had slipped into shadow. My love for you is undying, unconditional and will never change or falter.'' He then kissed her other foot and looked up at her. ''It will always be you''

She sobbed and dropped to her knees and embraced him. "My dearest Niko. My Niko..." she buried her head in his shoulder, amazed at his response, amazed that he was so wonderful. She loved him. Everything he was, and he loved her even when he found out about her. She was speechless, and she knew that even though she felt as if she were falling, he was catching her and holding her up.
