"Do you have greed, Lady Deawen?" Goldleaf asked, turning back to her, her voice very calm and soft. "And as for home, I cannot speak of it. At the age of seventeen I was turned out of the house I call my own again and spent two years homeless in Ithilien." She paused. "You will find, though, that though a pecking order creates stability it also creates anger. Some people do not like their slot in life, and would wish to change it." She gave a tiny laugh. "Think not I speak of myself, though. I once had the chance of marrying a rich man, a powerful man; but I did not want the title. I only wanted the person beneath all the grandure, all the richness." She said nothing more, she wished to say nothing more.

Deawen smiled softly as if she was talking to a child. "Yes, I do." Deawen said simply, " those who say they do not are deciving themselves. BUt do n't mistake my greed for wealth, my greed is for tolerence." She left the statement hanging.
Deawen did not respond to Goldleaf's story, but a strange look came from Deawen, it was masked by a smile. Eston stood nearby and watched the ordeal and knew Deawen was irratated. Deawen gave a curtsy to her guest and then turned her back and walked back to her dais.

Goldleaf did not glare or scowl at her host who seated herself on her throne. She only smiled still. Deawen knew her not at all, she could not hope to. Goldleaf had lost any greed she might have had once in her younger years. She replied first with a curtsy.
"Of course, my lady," she said, head down, "tolerance is what we all wish for." Looking up slightly, she added, "especially tolerance towards kind hearts who wish no evil to anyone."
She rose up and turned away. The exchange between herself and the lady of the hall had annoyed her slightly, though she knew better than to say so or signal some sign of her annoyance. If she had been offered all of Boromir's wealth, if she had been offered Minas Tirith itself, if one day he became steward and she had the chance of a wealthy life, she would not have wanted it. She had only ever wanted him.

Deawen had not seated herself on her throne simply needed higher ground to find Eston. " Where is my husband?" Deawen asked herself
Deawen had no need to understand people, it was a trifile in life she ignored. "With status comes the obligations.." she muttered. But unlike most women in her position she married for love, a gift rarely seen. And she Loved Sen more deeply than her life. If she had her way she would be isolated from the tedious world and alone with her family.

Goldleaf continued walking down the hall. She was fuming inside, that she might be made to feel humbled somehow. She took a windowseat and smoothed her blue skirts. Of course, she was only the poor Gondorian here with the tiny house. The foreigner. She felt she did not care for status anymore. There was only one leader she would truly bend at the knee to and mean it, and that was King Elessar. Taking a deep breath, she kept her calm.

Morwen's sons looked up at her expectantly. She said, "Fine, go. Don't ruin your clothes, please. The embroidery on those tunics took me a long time." They scattered before she could say anything else. She watched them go, then got up and went to Goldleaf. "Can I speak with you in private for a moment?"

Goldleaf looked up as Morwen approached her. "As you wish," she said quietly, with a small smile, "if it is to lecture me on the proper behaviour of guests towards their hosts, then I apologize if my behaviour seems untoward."

"Yes, verily. What I also want to say is that if you are looking for conflict, do not find it with Lady Deawen. She is a good person, but does not take insult well. Expecially against her home. It is a touchy subject. She also is a bit...touchy right now. Beltane is stressful for the Lord of the town." She looked down at her velvet shoes for a moment. "Just think before you speak." With that, she went back into the hall. She approached Deawen on the dias. She leaned on the arm and said, "So, Eohric was called to Edoras this morning. I have to be in charge of the bonfire, Bema help me."

Goldleaf shook her head slightly before Morwen walked away. "I do not look to cause conflict nor did I insult your Lady Deawen. I do not doubt that she is a good person. But I will not be made to make a show of reverence and solemn respect because in social terms I am not considered important, due to my immense lack of land or wealth." She kept her voice quiet.
As Mowen walked off towards the throne Goldleaf frowned. She folded her hands on top of her lap and looked out of the window.

Deawen looked up at Morwen with concern. "I see, is there something amiss?" Deawen asked. Deawen knew Morwen didn't like Eohric leaving her, around holidays mainly. " I am sure you will be fine, though I am not sure how you will present the leap of love with your husband's absence.." Deawen laughed slightly.
The festival food's aroma's filled the hall, and the heat from the kitchen's was comforting. Deawen watched her guests with a weary glance.
" I saw you talk with Lady Goldleaf." Deawen started, Eston brought up a small chair for Morwen and placed it so the two ladies could enjoy a conversation peacefully. " I hope I didn't upset the lass too much...." Deawen sighed though she really wasn't feeling remorseful, manners dictated she feel sorry but she had to defend her home.

(OOC: Hey, I'm going to be out of town until August 2nd, so don't worry about going on. I'll catch up.)
"Yes. I'm just worried about getting the fire started," she said with a laugh. She sat in the chair Eston brought. "I don't understand it. I think that there is somethin beneath the surface, a resentment of some sort, though whether it is conscious or unconscious, I don't know. Perhaps it is a cultural difference, or a city versus rural custom. I can't say. Don't let it sour your mood, Deawen."

(Wow... So many posts... )
*It was then that Sen returned, walking in from the kitchen, hands still wet from washing the day's hunt off of them. He saw the number of people in the hall, and was taken aback slightly. Sighing, he knew he would have to greet them all...*
Hello, everyone. I trust my wife has already welcomed you to our hall? I would like to extend my own greetings to each of you, and beg forgiveness for my absence at your arrival. I was just out with my children, hunting, before the weather began to take a turn for the worse. I trust you are all here to enjoy the festival? If you would like to speak with me about anything, do not hesitate.
*As he spoke, he walked over to his seat next to Lady Deawen, and sat down, leaning over to her and planting a small kiss on her cheek. He nodded to Morwen and Eston in greeting, as well.*
I hope that you did not have too much trouble with welcoming all these guests? There seems to be more and more every year...

Goldleaf looked away from the window. She was feeling a little bad about her conversation with Deawen. Gondorians always spoke out of turn, and it sometimes irritated those who weren't used to it. Perhaps she should have chosen her words more carefully, especially towards this host, who seemed rather a second monarch rather than a noble. But she couldn't repress her opinions.
But still. If this had been ten years ago, it would have been far worse. She would have shouted, got angry. She would have lost her temper.
Goldleaf noticed Sen walking into the hall and inclined her head slightly to be polite.

Deawen nodded to Morwen, "I won't." Deawen said with a smile. At that moment Sen came in, Deawen returned the kiss with a brillant smile, "Have my hunters returned triumphant?" she asked.

Goldleaf fidgeted slightly in her seat. She turned her gaze back to the magnificent view from the window; the fields of Rohan rolling over the horizon reminded her slightly of the Pelennor, except that was flat.

( I miss morwen, she's only been gone a few hours but I miss her...)
Eston offered Sen a tankard of cider, and Deawen a watered down horn of mead. Deawen thanked Eston and sipped the warm drink. Several servants had began distributing the refreshments to the guests.
