[ Sorry for the double-post but since I had nothing else to do I decided to post here ]
Beör paced up and down his cell; barefooted. His muscles had gone stiff from the cold and the lack of excersise and only by walking he could warm them up again. His hands touched the stones of the wall as he went. "Be grateful that they are occupied with other matter," he remarked darkly to Rayelin. "It means that they will pay less attention to us."
He, at least, did not mind that the Enemy seemed to be planning something. For as long as he was in this rotten place he could not be moved by matters of the outsideworld. As one of the Wise used to say: those who pass the gates of Barad-Dûr will not return. And Beör still could not believe it could be otherwise.

The Mouth of Sauron’s clerk reacted to the sharp knock on the door, and upon seeing Morwen with the jug of wine, his eyes wide with the expression of a trapped animal, wordlessly, he held the door open for her and scuttled out of the way. “Is that my wine? It’s about time,” the Mouth said, from his desk. He could sense the presence of someone who hated him, resented him, and who loathed his very presence. It certainly wasn’t his clerk; his only aura was fear. “Bring it to me.” He leaned back in his ornate chair, his hands gripping the armrests. “I see that the Lady Arawen has taken to appointing attendants to complete her lesser tasks for her.” Expecting an answer, he listened to the clerk gently click the door closed behind Morwen and then flee.
~~~ Luthien prodded at her food slightly, finally accepting that this was all the nourishment she would receive from now on. Biting into a chunk of bread, she pondered over the words of the others as she ate. Brushing crumbs from her mouth, she swallowed and finally spoke up. “They’re going to attack Gondor,” she said. Her voice was blank, making it impossible for anyone listening to tell what she felt. She certainly did not want Beör taunting her for a weakness. She picked at the slices of meat on her plate, thinking. A little of her normal expressiveness crept into her tone. “Funny, isn’t it? Gondor’s destruction provides us with the Enemy’s distraction.” It wasn’t funny at all. Frowning, she decided to leave the meat.
With unbelief Beör watched Luthien's picky behaviour but he swallowed his comments. "Does it matter, really?" he asked in a flat voice. He stood still in his cell and ran with his hand through his long blond hair. "They will die in weeks or months at the hands of the Enemy. So will we.. We just have more time."
Morwen held her silence for a few moments. She knew he expected an answer, but she wanted to deliver it in her normal calm manner... her emotions would do nothing but earn her trouble here. She approached the desk calmly, her tone calm and even, "It's what is expected of her, when she has other things to do, is it not?" She set the bottle down calmly and then retreated a few steps, not wanting to stay near more than she had to.
She paused for a moment, and then asked just as calmly, "Or was that a rhetorical question?" That was one thing they had never quite beat into her. She had not once called any of them her master. Ever. And she doubted they would.
Rayelin scoffed mildly at Beor's words. "And what? They've only let us languish here for months, even years in some of our cases. I doubt it would make much of a difference, except that it is MY country they are attacking and MY people who will be dying. Well, more than just mine, but still," she said, with a glance at Luthien. "My father and brother in the Guard--they will fall while I sit here." She settled back angrily, having finished her "food".
"Yes, your people will die," Beör responded laconic, not so much affected as Rayelin. "But not just your kin, but all races of Middle Earth will perish under the rule of the Black Land. And the fate of the White City will not change, eventhough valour is found when you least expect it, even if you would have been there."
The Ranger sighed. He had seen many places, long ago and beheld as much beauty as pain but all would go to waste by the approaching shadow. Beör had been as frustrated as Rayelin and Luthien were, by the realisation of these things, but it had passed. He'd been too much disconnected with the world and the knowledge that he could not make a difference had made him passive. Out of self-preservation he'd become thankful for the memory of the times of 'questioning' were more horrific than the thought of the world, which he'd not seen for fourteen years, coming to an end.
The Mouth smiled his ghastly smile, sensing Morwen’s acute hatred for him, despite her calm, even tone. “Pour the wine for me,” he commanded. “Yes, I expect she is kept quite busy.” He spoke as if it was not he who sent Arawen on her countless errands, most of them too grisly to mention, as if it had nothing to do with him. “But then, we all lead busy lives, do we not? You included, I am sure.” He had decided already that he liked this girl’s presence; he enjoyed knowing that he was hated. To him, hatred closely resembled fear, and being feared was the best thing of all. “Once you have poured my wine, you may sit. I think I have some questions for you.”
Luthien was about to reply to Rayelin when Beör spoke up with characteristic doom and gloom. “For goodness’ sake, spare us,” she said wearily. “Some of us would rather hope, even if such slender hope is impossible or based on folly.” She turned her head, staring at the wall of her cell. She folded her arms and hid her face behind her tangle of lion-blonde hair. Taking a moment to calm down, she took a deep breath. “My brother, too, wears the uniform of black and silver. I am afraid for him, for all our people. I care not if hope is foolish; it is what will surely keep me alive.”
Morwen barely held back a sigh as she went for a glass, then she paused hearing his last bit of statement. Of course. She had managed to escape his notice before, usually only being refereed to as 'the elf in the dungeons'.. which is how she preferred it.
"My business depends a great deal on the attitudes of those in the cells" Morwen spoke calmly, though her tone was slightly clipped giving away her agitation at having to stay. She got the glass and poured the wine easily, her mind momentarily drifting back to when she had last poured wine. She then, when finished, moved away from the desk, the memories fading.
"What questions do you have for me" she asked. She couldn't figure out why he would be even remotely interested in her.
(This RP is definitely not dead! ^_^ Yay, I’m looking forward to your post, Will! )
“But of course.” The Mouth of Sauron picked up the glass now filled with wine with one smooth easy movement. He listened to Morwen’s words, amused, indulging himself by letting a pause stretch out longer than was necessary. He took one sip of wine before setting it back down on his desk. “Oh, only a few questions; they needn’t take long. I find myself curious; I like to know more about those who serve me, willingly or not. Please, do seat yourself. One wouldn’t want you to be uncomfortable.” Of course, this was a sly hint at the prisoners who experienced some of the worst discomfort imaginable, locked behind bars not far from the Mouth’s chambers. “By your accent, I’d say you were an elf,” he commented. “And you are free from the constraints of my other guests…” he was smiling by now, his repulsive smile. “Tell me, how do you like working for me? Perhaps I am able to make a guess at what your true answer would be. You despise it here, and you detest me, is that not so?”
(Oh hurray and Huzzah! I am rather attached to this rp ^_^)
Morwen rolled her eyes at his comment about her comfort, but she did reluctantly sit. "Of course not" she said, a light coloring of sarcasm in her tone.
"You say correctly that I'm an elf. Not hard to guess, I suppose. As for my freedom I earned that some... 150 years ago now by behaving myself." Morwen shrugged then felt a bitter smile touch her face at the last question. "Despise and detest are such.... polite terms for how I feel about this place and yourself. I've been here too long for it to be such polite kind words."
Her tone as usual was civil but she placed a certain emphasis on 'polite'.
