~The Seige of Mirkwood~

This is set after Return of the King. Aragorn is King in Gondor, with Arwen as his queen. The Hobbits have returned safely to the Shire. Gimli and Legolas are headed to Mirkwood. But the peace that has found its way to the rest of Middle-Earth, has not reached the home of Legolas Greenleaf.
Legolas has returned from his journey with the Fellowship to find his home under seige. Orcs and evil men have found their way into Mirkwood. They have captured and killed his father, King Thranduil, and as the sole heir has been thrust into a postion his does not want.
King of Mirkwood.

King Legolas is trying to revitalize his flagging troops, but now, several decades into this war, his people are starting to lose hope...

Name: Hareth
Race: Elf
Place of origin: Mirkwood
Personality: Smart, and clever. Not power-hungry, never has been. Friendly, kind, generous. His biggest fault is the fact he tends to do things the way that they have always been done.
History: Born in Mirkwood, his father was a Wood Elf and his mother was from Rivendell. His father was a wanderer, and took Hareth with him after his mother was killed. Hareth has seen much of the world and has had plenty of combat experiance. He and Legolas have been friends for quite a while, though their friendship did start out a little rocky. (They got in a fight....It was a long time ago and both of them were quite young, but Hareth won and Legolas hasn't quite forgiven him for it.) When Legolas became king, he gave his friend the position of his counseler.

Name: Amara Thandiel

Race: Elf

Place of origin: Mirkwood

Personality: Amara is a very free spirit; loving everything about nature and all that it possesses. She can be quite bubbly, but if there is work to be done and business to attend to, she'll make sure that the task at hand is completed in no time at all. She knows when to be serious.

History: Amara has been in Mirkwood her whole life. She grew up knowing the King and his son Legolas. But, not quite personally. Her father put her in hiding due to a family secret that he was scared someone would find out. He didn't want anything to happen to her, so he had one of his servants become her ranger "father". She thinks that her mother died a long time ago. She has no clue about anything. But, she has a really elaborate necklace that she has had since she was young, but her "father" told her to keep it hidden underneath her clothes for as long as she could -- Never fully explaining anything to her about it. She could never understand why, but he told her that someday she would understand and find out in her own time. (Amara secretly has a slight crush on Legolas, even though she fully denies it.)

Personality: Quiet, might seem shy to some but that's only until you get to know her. Meldriel often has her head up in the clouds daydreaming about the legends and what it must have been like to go through then. Secretly she'd like to go on her own adventure but really doesn't believe that it will ever happen.

((Ok. I'm tired of waiting. Lets just start.))

"Hold still, Sire!" Hareth said firmly. "You're just making your wounds worse."
"How can I be still, mellon nin, when my people are sacrificing their lives for the sake of my kingdom?" Legolas, the Elvenking of Mirkwood, replied, a little harsher than he meant it to sound. A thin trickle of blood ran from a cut above Legolas's right eye. He wiped it away. "I'm not hurt that badly, Hareth. Let me go back out there."
"No."
"What do you mean 'no'?!" Legloas spluttered. "I'm the king!"
"And even kings need someone to tell them 'no'."
Legloas sighed and ran his fingers through his blond hair. "You're right, as usual." he said with exagerated patiance.
Hareth gave a small smile. "And you, my king, are as stubborn and hard-headed as your father was."
"I know, Hareth. I know."

A full on war had broken out in the once peaceful kingdom of Mirkwood. Amara had grown up there and come to know it as her home and had come to recently know Prince Legolas as King. Since Thranduil had died... 'May he rest in peace.' She thought in her mind. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, Amara blinked her tired blue eyes a few times to have a clearer picture of the scene before her.

Blood. Clanking of swords. Whooshing of arrows being shot from their bows. Screaming. Children and their families running. Amara wouldn't let the darkness consume Mirkwood. It was all she really knew and she didn't want it to fall to ruins. She glared a bit and held on tightly to her sword, while a bit of blood ran down her arm. She felt the warmness of it, but hardly paid attention to how bad the wound was on her shoulder.

Amara knew that King Legolas had just returned home from his journey with the Fellowship of the Ring. And to come home to such destruction and to find his father dead... She could hardly bear to feel what he felt. She wasn't that strong. But, she was strong enough to avenge the King and his kingdom. She saw two Orcs coming at her and then got into her fighting stance, before running toward them. She yelled loudly, as her sword cut deeply into the both of them as she swung fully.

Mirkwood WOULD stay in peace.

Legolas restrung the beautiful bow that had been a gift from Lady Galadriel. He slung his quiver over his shoulder and buckled on his knives. He needed to get back out to the front lines. His soldiers needed him there. But as he headed for the door to his chamber, he found Hareth in the way.
"You cannot go, my king!" the loyal counseler protested. Your wounds are not fully healed!"
"They are healed well enough, Hareth." the stubborn king replied. "I am needed elsewhere."
"And it will do the army no good to have their king wounded or killed. You have no children to be your heir, and you have no sibling either. If you were killed, I would be left in charge, and quite frankly I don't want that job."
Legolas let what was now a rare smile cross his face. "That's good. I can sleep easy knowing my counseler won't murder me in my bed."
Luckily, Hareth knew when his king was joking. "Very funny, sire. Now put down your weapons and please get some rest. You need it."
Legolas also knew when his counseler was joking. Now was not one of those times. He sighed and did as Hareth had asked.
