Melarë smiled gratefully at Eleniel. "I thought I heard... I thought I heard the voices of those who went to... drive out the evil that lurked in the forest. I am ready to go inside now." She said nothing, but the sun was very painful to her eyes. She took a few faltering steps towards what she thought was the entrance to Menegroth.

Corwin hit the tree in frustration. They are all fools. Prideful fools. He lay his back against the tree and slid to the ground. I cannot do it alone. I must have the support of the Elven houses. He sat and pondered the problem.

"Did you ever meet those who went to hunt the Shadow, before they started their quest?" she asked.

"I did. And I wish I could see them again, for I have heard rumour that it goes not well. Though I do not know what I could do." Melarë hung her head. "I am but a silly girl who does nothing all day but lay in the sunshine. Even that sun which I love pains me, for such is the vengeance of Morgoth."

Corwin never felt it coming. The black arrow slammed into his back as he crossed the border between Doriath and the plains beyond. He cried out once and was swiftly carried away by the current. In the nearby bushes, a man dressed in black sneered among his orc minions. His sneer broke and swiftly became a manical laugh.

Eleniel suddenly stumbled. She felt as if an ominous shadow had swiftly blotted out the stars, and she was greatly troubled. The worst of it was that she knew not what had so shaken her, only that it was terrible, and that part of her fear was on Melare's account.

She screamed silently. she rushed after Corwin. grabing him just in time, she pulled him out of the way and turned to face the man.

Silmeriel had broken her chains. She crept silently through the towers, invisible to all eyes. All but Morgoth's, that is.

"I can only hope that your words may be true." With that, Melarë and Eleniel quietly faded into the hall of Menegroth.

The Elves live IN Menegroth! lol, so, Melarë's house is in Menegroth, you might say. Besides, she would like to return to her harp now.

Melarë was thinking of her harp and was surprised when Eleniel stumbled. Suddenly a weight on her heart fell, but she was numb to such and hardly noticed. "My lady, what is the matter?" she asked, concerned. But she felt that in some small way she understood.

Corwin returned to conciousness slowly. To his eyes, everything seemed blurry, distorted. He shifted and pain shot through him. His sight went black, though his conciousness lived. He groaned audibly.

Eleniel felt a barely perceptable lightening in the weight of dread upon her heart, like a ray of sun piercing the shadow. With it came pity, for what or whom she did not know. Hope returned to her, a small bright flame.
