Mariel sighed at the weight in the old mans' response and was about to say something when suddenly Durian appeared holding drinks in his hand.
Mariel leaned back in her seat and crossed her arms as the man with the drinks inquired about a key. She then raised an eyebrow in shock and amusement as the old man pulled out a rather odd looking key.
"Of course you would have a key."
She spoke jokingly.

Durian looked at them both as he sat the drinks down on the table. Whether they drank them was not his concern. He looked at the woman and said,
”I would have guessed from that music he played that he had keymastering among his trades.”
Durian took a look at what the old man had and nodded.
”It may well indeed work good sir.”

"Oh." Mariel said, relieved that he didn't suspect anything from her. As she looked at him, she couldn't help but feel as though she recognized him from somewhere. Had she stolen from him before? She furrowed her brows as she tried to recollect his face from her memory, but she frowned and leaned back in her seat. No...she didn't steal from him. She would've remembered his face. A sigh escaped her lips and she blinked.
"You look very familiar, sir. Have we met before?"

Durien paused and looked at the woman, his eyes lingered longer on some of her features. He thought of where he had seen blonde women recently.
Mainly when he was in Rohan before they rode the dread path that Aragorn had led them on.
Oh, the serving maid at the Inn at the White Tree Inn at Minas Tirith. As he walked around to her other side, he said,
”Possibly. Have you been down south at all?”
He looked at her eyes as he asked the question.

Mariel's eyes widened ever so slightly as she realized where she remembered him from, then she arched her brow and took a sip from her wine glass.
"It is possible. I tend to travel quite a bit."

Durian gave her another sidelong look and his eyes squinted as his mouth grinned slightly. She did look familiar, especially when he caught her ever so briefly noting where his money pouch was on his belt. When he first saw her, he considered the memory but dismissed it, thinking the chances were way too slim. There would only be one way for him to know for sure, and that wouldn’t happen any time soon, if at all. For now, he would have to consider this woman to be who he thought she was. Durian would have to see how this plays out.

Mariel tilted her head and nodded then crossed one leg over the other as she watched him assess her.
"Interesting."
She took another sip from her glass but kept her eyes fixed on his.
"So tell me, sir...what were your travels down south?"
As she waited for him to speak, she could not help but wear an amused smile, for she wondered if this man remembered their last meeting.

”Well m’lady, my recent journey down south was to aid our chieftain. We met him in Rohan, and took a long and dread road that led us to Pelargir, then we took ship to Minas Tirith and battled orcs, Haradrim, Variags of Khand, and Easterlings…”
Durian lifted his flagon and said,
’Rest well Halbarad my friend.”
Before taking a drink. He then said,
”Stayed there in the White City for a time, helping clean up the place and attending the Coronation of the King and weddings of the King and the Steward Faramir, and such.”
Durian reached over and pulled a stool up to the table and sat down. He swirled the ale around in his tankard and watched it for a moment before he said,
”But mostly spent my free time at the White Tree Inn. Which brings me to you. You have been there I believe?”

As Mariel listened to Durian speak of his company's traveling escapades she couldn't help but start to feel the rise of resentment both of herself and from her brother. She too lifted her drink at the mention of Halbarad. She didn't know him very well, but from what her brother wrote in his letters, he was apparently a good man.
And this man who sat before her? Well, let's just say he was a bit rough around the edges.
Although the bitterness towards Durian and his company were there, she couldn't help but lift the corner of her mouth in a smile as she recalled those few days at the White Tree Inn.
"Aye, sir." She nodded as she gently swirled the red liquid in her cup.
"I have been. But then, I've been to many Inns before that as well. "
As she took a sip of her wine, she looked at him over the brim of the glass and batted her eyelashes rather flirtatiously.

Durían nodded and smiled slightly at the woman. He said,
"So you're a traveling lass. Sounds like you get around. Maybe we should name the inns we have either frequented or visited one night?"
He looked at the glazier who seemed to be working on his musical instrument, but Durían could tell he was missing nothing. Durían then said,
"I have to say I found it a relief that this place was actually in business. Used to be abandoned. Thanks to these sisters Caira and Caila, I may prefer this place over the fine Prancing Pony in Bree."
He eyed the blonde to see if she would name another inn she had been to.

Mariel laughed at his turn of phrase before taking another sip of her red wine. As Durian looked at the old man, Mariel couldn't help but look briefly at him to see if she could find his money bag. She was able to locate it before he looked back at her and continued.
"The Prancing Pony? Hm...it seems that you and I have now frequented two of the many Inns here in Middle-Earth!"
She spoke with mock surprise, and continued for his benefit.
"I have also frequented the Snowbourn Tavern, and a few others in East Rohan..."

Durían nodded and smiled, He said,
"Hmm.. Snowbourne Tavern... must visit that place when next in Rohan. Unfortunately, my time there was brief. No time for inns in those days."
Durían's sidelong vision noted the woman was eyeing him over. He lifted his flagon and took a drink while his other hand checked his coin pouch. He grinned at a passing thought then shook his head slightly> He said,
"I was recently at Hunter's Rest Inn near Esgoroth. A nice place with a lovely proprietor.. And I hope to return to the Chetwood Edge Tavern in coming days when my horse has healed. It's my kind of place that. But then... this place is my kind of place. What is your kind of place miss..."

Mariel noticed his hand moving over his coin purse and she smiled at the memory of her last...visit with him. But she continued on after he had listed off a few of the Inns and Taverns he'd been to.
"You know, I don't believe I've had the chance to frequent the Hunter's Rest Tavern, but believe it or not, I have been to Chetwood Edge Tavern...quite often, in fact..." Mariel paused to sip her drink, then she placed it back on the table and leaned forward with her elbows resting on the wood.
"My kind of place? Hm.... Out of all the Inns and Taverns, I'd have to say The White Tree and this one, right here. They are a bit different, but they seem to hold the same sort of occupants."
She smiled at Durian, then traced her finger around the edge of the glass. Surely he remembered her?

Durían lifted an eyebrow and said as he leaned forward,
"It seems we tend to find ourselves frequenting the same sort of places. We're back to the White Tree again. Spent many a night there after the war. But you... your hair is braided now.... "
Durían took a drink of his flagon, draining it and lifting it in the air. Caira was right on to bringing another one. Durían nodded and took a drink of the fresh ale. It left him with a slight foamy line on his upper lip. He looked again at the woman. He said,
"You worked at the White Tree, at least a couple nights. Your hair was braided then too. Bit I remember seeing someone who looked very much like you at another place in Minas Tirith. It was a different kind of place. Do you know it?"
Durían didn't give the woman anything to go on. He was curious if she would know what place he was talking about.
