He had grabbed a scrap of cloth from a table and now held it to the gash on Jack’s forehead, trying to staunch the slow ooze of blood. Seeing Gavin’s wide, staring eyes, he tried to soften his voice, “He’s going to be fine. I’ve seen miners live through plenty worse. I just need to get this bleeding stopped.” The rag in his hand was practically soaked through. “You-“ he looked at the young man who had just walked in, “Find some clean cloths and bandages. Hal should know where they are.”
