Layna was amazed. The people had just walked right on past her and her spastic horse.
"Well father would love to hear of this." she sighed as she tapped the horses sides and mad the small sorrel walk to the edge of town.

Shade heard his horse whinny and he knew someone else was there. "Did the whole city follow me here?" He muttered and looked out the window. A girl was out on her horse and she looked bewildered at the small house. "Someone is watching us." He noted to the others.

Pausing in her preparations to relate her tale, the elf's brow furrowed slightly, and her sharp eyes darted to the window. "Too many people are wandering this city for comfort.."

Layna sharply turned to the window in her saddle her young , unmarked face truned to the window while her hand relaxed off her saddle and onto her thigh. She wanted no one to think they would be threatned by her. She was only sent as a scout by the elves and the Varden, not as a soldier.

Just as the elf opened her mouth to respond, the stone in her hands gave a shudder, and she nearly dropped it. "You're about to find out now.." she then whispered, setting the object down as it began to shake more violently, and it also began to crack.

Shade was lost for words as the 'stone' started cracking. Stone don't crack..., he thought.

Kith, against his better judgment, followed the group inside. As much as he didn't want to admitt it, he craved friendly human contact, somthing he hadn't had for man years. And while dark meetings with mysterious objects probably wasn't the best place to start, a start it was. He stayed toward the door, surrounding himself with shadow. He was content with simply listening, but soon his stone began to tremble. The mysterious elf remarked that hers too was breaking. Kith held it in his hand, tranfixed by the webs of cracks. They met at the top. The very top of the egg broke, and he saw a small scaly nose poke through.

Shade yelped slightly when his too started to crack. "There not stones...there eggs!" He stated just as the cracks met like Kith's did and a small little head poked out. Shade, with disbelief, looked at the small, red dragon as it broke the shell and climb out, wobbling a little. As it was about to fall off the table, Shade instintivly went to catch it. When he touched it, a sharp pain went up his entire arm. He winced and getting the dragon back on his feet, looked at his head. A small, light blue scar-type thing had formed on his palm. He had heard stories from the village, but it can't be the same thing...not what he heard...

Shards of silvery shell suddenly went flying in various directions across the room as the elf's egg shattered. A curled silver dragon lay on her palms, and she hissed softly as a sharp pain went up her arm. Setting the dragon down gently, she sat down crosslegged before it, before looking at her left palm. The skin there itched and burned, as if she had bitten by a spider, but instead of a spider bite, there was a diffused white oval visible there, glinting slightly by the light of the near fire. "The gedwey ignasia.."

Shade looked over at the Elf and said, "The gedwey ignasia? Isn't that that mark of..." He couldn't finish his sentence, for he couldn't believe that the marking on his head was the gedwey ignasia.

"Dragon Riders." she finished for him. "Aye..this is this their..our mark."

"Dragon Riders? Sorry, you must be mistaken...I'm just a mortal...someone that people spit on as they walk by...a nobody! I cna't be...someone so powerful as a...Dragon Rider!" Shade protested, but then looked down at the small little red dragon that was about to change his life. It's little head cocked to one side as if inspecting him, and it's dark blue eyes where beautiful. He couldn't help smiling at her.

"Mortal or not, you are a Rider now." the elf said seriously, stroking the head of her small silver dragon. "As much as I am, and as much as he is," here, she jerked her head towards Kith, whose dragon appeared to still be hatching. "You are marked with the gedwey ignasia, and there is no escaping the path before you. You are a Dragon Rider now."

"Dragon..." Kith murmured to himself. He was still in the shadows, but he could easily see the storm grey-green dragon that lay in his hand. The moment he had touched the baby dragon a sharp pain shot up his arm, but is was quicklt replaced with a silvery scar, what the elven lady had called a gedwey "ignasia". He didn't know what that was, but it sounded important. The baby dragon chirped, ten crawled up his shirt and drapped its body over the back of his neck.

(are we mentally connected yet? i tihnk so, but if i am wrong, i'll edit this...)

Shade heard her words but gave no reply. He looked down at the dragon and then at his palm and then jumped suddenly as he heard someone calling his name. He looked around but neither of the others where talking to him or talking at all, for that matter, yet he could still clearly hear a femine voice speaking his name.

He looked down at the dragon and then he asked,
"Are you speaking to me?" The dragons lips curled into what must have been a smile.
"Yes, smart one. I would like a name, if you don't mind."
"But, how?"
"We are connected as Dragon and Rider. I am the Dragon and you are the Rider. Stop acting like you aren't meant to be. I chose you, Shade, to be my friend and ally. Now, if you please."
"A name....how about...Elendi." The dragon thought for a moment.
"Yes. Elendi will do just find, Dragon Rider."
