Kith ignored the little girl's comment. What did she say her name was anyway? Elinde? It didn't matter. He waited for a reply from Erimak.

Elendi sighed and looked at Kith. He was starting to annoy her. She figured she would just have to get used to it.

Braad continued to fight hard, but he knew it was just a matter of time until the soldiers overwhelmed him. "If you get a chance, run!" he shouted to Meleth. Three soldiers rushed at him. He ducked low, slicing one's leg with a knife. The other two continued towards him. One his his right hand with the flat of his sword, making Braad drop that knife. He continued to fight with the knife he had, but the soldiers were slowly forcing him up against a tree.

"As you wish," Erimak said. "What is your one thing?"

I was cured all right.

Meleth sliced murderously at the lieutenant she faced, but he skipped backward with a deceptive nimbleness and struck out at her, a swing she too avoided - almost. A red slash across one cheekbone appeared and she blinked blood out of her eyes, an advantage that gave him the split second he needed to slice under her guard and inflict an ugly gash in her shoulder and arm. She gasped and instantly two or three soldiers moved in to grasp her wrists and twist them tightly behind her.

The lieutenant smiled, though it looked more like a walrus' smirk. "Got you there, pretty one," he leaned in, leering, to say.

Meleth promptly spat in his face and earned herself a bruise on her other cheek from his armored gauntlet, but this did not stop her from shrieking, "Run!" in Braad's general direction.

"You say that you oppose this government and want to see it end. But if you do tear it down, do you have plans for afterwards?" Kith questioned. "There are many rich nobles out there that yearn for power, and a government in shambles would be the perfect time to take it. And in my experience I have found they will not stop in their quest for power."

Braad had managed to knock the sword away from one soldier, but the other was strong and quick. <i>I won't last long with just one knife.</i> Braad thought.
He started working his way back to where his other blade was laying on the ground. Soon he was standing about a foot away from it. He decided to take a chance. Braad suddenly lunged over the soldier's guard, driving his knife towards his face. The soldier instincively ducked backwards and Braad threw himself to the side, fell to the ground, and grabbed his knife. He had planned to continue in a roll to his feet, but the soldier planted his sword in Braad's upper arm.
Braad grimaced. A few other soldiers quickly joined the first, who took back his sword and sheathed it. "We got this one too, sir." the soldier addressed the lieutenant as two other men roughly lifted Braad to his feet and disarmed him.

"As I thought," the lieutenant said brusquely, and turned his back, obviously looking on the whole escapade as a complete waste of his time. "Well, what are you waiting for?" he roared at the general body of soldiers. "We've got them, don't just stand there!"

Meleth struggled wildly, panting slightly from the exertion, as her hands were forcibly tied behind her. "Cowards!" she spat venomously. "Were you scared of the prisoners that you needed a whole regiment to recapture us?"

The lieutenant turned on his heel and glared down at her. "Gag both of them as well," he added as an afterthought, and strode away. Meleth again futilely attempted to lash out at the guards, but was successfully silenced and was forced to content herself with looking daggers as the burly man's retreating back. She cast an apologetic look at Braad as soldiers gagged him, too.

Braad's hands were quickly tied behind him also. He winced as his shoulder was twisted back.
"Were you scared of the prisoners that you needed a whole regiment to recapture us?" Meleth said.
"They knew we were worth it." Braad said to her, then made a face at a soldier who forced a gag into his mouth and tied it tightly.

"Not before the nobles kill each other out," said Erimak. "Very soon, the corruption that has plagued these lands will be cleansed. Justice will be restored, in time. And those who are decent shall rule over us."

I was cured all right.

"Are you sure about that?" Kith asked "You'd best be." He turned without another word and walked towards the exit.

Meleth did not smile at Braad's quip, too furious to even contemplate it. One of the soldiers made as to touch a strand of her brilliant silver hair and she gave him a look of such hatred that he hurriedly withdrew and seemed rather subdued.

All too soon they were back at the fortress, entering the gates they had so recently exited, and hearing the gates grind closed.

Elendi gave the leader one last glare before she turned and ran to keep up with Kith.

Kith grimaced as he heard the patter of feet closing in behind him. It better not be that little girl. He growled to himself. His temper has hanging by a thread. A very, very small thread.

The soldiers shoved Braad and Meleth along the fortress hallways, until they were back in the prisons. The men guarding Braad stopped in front of a cell and opened the door. One took him into the cell, took off his gag and untied his hands before hurridly ducking back out. The other man slammed the door closed and locked it securely.
Braad sighed and sat down on the floor, leaning his head back against the wall.
